There are now rules in place to stop clubs spending beyond their means city have over stated sponsorship income so are therefore cheating but the fa and premier league are turning a blind eye to it
Its an amazing feet though, doing the treble, at least that’s what I’ve read on Facebook. Only cost 1.5bn in the last 10/11 years on players to get to this so thats fairly reasonable
If clubs are having to spend ever-increasing amounts in order to succeed, then it all becomes pointless. The names are interchangeable and don't really matter. It's just Rich Club FC v Sugar Daddy FC, ad infinitum. Can't believe people are excited by it TBH. A few seasons back we played Burton in a cup tie and walked it 5-0. It was a nice change, but boring as ****. If we were doing that week in, week out, I'd be losing interest mid season.
Maybe its just me then but I've enjoyed this season feeling that we re not likely to lose and actually expecting to win. If Barnsley ended up like Man city I'd no doubt enjoy seeing some of the best footballers in the world plying their trade. Money alone hasn't made Man city successful this year but a good team spirit, hard work and a top manager. Hiw many seasons I'd feel like that I dont know and probably I'd be priced out of actually going to matches cant really see a solution though.
Spot on. Man U Have thrown enough money about in the last few years and done absolutely nothing.. Money is only one part of the puzzle and City have solved it brilliantly. Also those complaining about the rich owners, remind me again which self made local lad owns Barnsley FC? Its just a part of football and has been going back over 20 years.
And he played for years. I just don’t think fergies era at Man Utd can be considered buying the title for years
Fair enough. The only ones who didn't buy it were Leicester in my view. And even they cheated to get out of the Championship.
The historic treble winning side they put out at Wembley yesterday will be a player short from today. Captain Vincent Kompany has announced he's leaving the Etihad. He's signed a 3 year deal as Player/Manager of Anderlecht. He been a right servant for City and has rightly left on a high.
Fair point. But it does help that City have the greatest Coach ever to ply his trade in the modern game. Oh, and they are by some distance the best side ever in the history of English football. However, having said that, can’t say i’m a fan of the Premiership. Leaves me cold. One Club in with a chance of the title. Five others messing around for 2nd to 4th. And the rest trying not to get relegated. And all covered with extraordinary degrees of hype from Sky. Yaaawwwnnnn.
One thing that impressed me about Man City yesterday, was the ease in which they cranked up the pressure. I've watched the highlights again and it's clear that the only time their players had to really run, was when Watford broke forward. When City were moving forward, it appeared to be at walking pace which was made possible by accurate passes to feet. They know where they've got to move to to get the ball and then use incisive passes to create any opportunity. Pep Guardiola deserves a lot of praise for the way he's got them playing, but it's good to see that he also acknowledges what his coaches contribute to their effort at all levels. He values his right hand man fellow Spaniard Mikel Arteta's contribution who has now confided he's been approached by Lyon to be their new Coach. I would think that City might be keen to hang on to him.
In terms of style and substance, City are the best thing to have happened for a long time. If I was coaching kids then I would have them watching the way they play. Not just the flashy stuff, because a lot of the stuff is simple stuff done well. Ball retention, closing down and quickly winning the ball back and choosing the right passes. All the money in the world is wasted if you don't underpin the skill with effort, and they are superfit and highly motivated lads.
Totally agree FT. Apparently Klopp is going to be given money to strengthen Liverpool. Unless other teams spend vast amounts on new players, I can't really see this seasons top two coming under pressure for the title again next season. Celtic achieved their 50 th League title today. Must be boring for the other Scottish Premiership teams. If City and Liverpool continue to progress, it makes you wonder , if the Premiership becomes as predictable by one of two teams winning the title season in and season out.
I always used to think that Red Helen. Just goes to show what a truly great Manager Alex Ferguson was to motivate the players season upon season. The current crops form at the end of this season was alarming and after such a good start, it must be a real concern to all involved. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was hinting recently at a mass clear out. Despite the "fountain of all knowledge " Paul Ince claiming that Solskjaer is not the man for the job, it looks likely that the Board disagree and are preparing to give him money for new players. Even if he's able to make the right signings, he stands a chance of finishing fourth or fifth at best, but they are light years away from emulating City or Liverpool. It's also not really helpful for the Board or for Ole himself, when in yesterday's paper former boss Jose Mourinho labelled Solskjaer " the Boards puppet."
They’ve barely got any, crowds are barely different to pre-oil money & you very rarely see people round these parts in City shirts like you do with Man Utd & Liverpool. It’ll probably change with time
