I had understood our new manager to be starting on 1st July so who exactly is calling the shots on this one, supposing it to be accurate? Has he seen enough from the Pearson video offerings or is he here to do as he’s told and make the best of what’s left after the car boot sale? Worrying.
I thought he struggled at first when he was clearly playing out of position , also he struggled with the step up in class , but the lad never hid & eventually he got a few opportunities in the centre of defence, he looked a lot more comfortable & with the right coaching & the drop of division , I think he could be a useful squad member
I agree he's an honest lad but I'm not convinced he is League One standard. I think we can do better. Best of luck to the lad though.
Well to be fair , when we signed him, he was bought to progress in the Championship & to a degree there were signs of green shoots , on that basis , I would at least give him the opportunity at a division lower & give him until january to see how he performs .
4th choice centre back who’ll be on decent wages as we paid a fee whilst in the championship to sign him. We’ve since been relegated so common sense suggests if we get a half decent offer he’s going
I actually think he would make a half decent right back , especially on the defensive side, who also , judging on his record at a lower level , could well bring a goal or two from set piece situations . Given the amount of game time the lad has had I don"t think getting rid of him too early would be wise. I think that if we are to be a big player in this league next season, then we ought to think long & hard before selling players to potential rivals, because I am sure that Luton for example would expect to do well next year . I think there is a big clue that the lad has promise if fellow rivals fancy signing him , lets not rush to get rid
Clear out starting. New team will have assessed what we have and where to strengthen. Solid leaders a major. Think we’ll see a few coming in in next couple of weeks
I thought the problem was obvious from the start last season: the players we signed just weren't good enough. They were triers, but the quality just wasn't there. So if we can get money for these players, if another team will buy them from us, for me that's great. Because I believe we can use that money to sign much, much better players.
But we won’t. We’ll use it to plug the gaps in the finances, and then buy players that we hope are good enough for league one (rather than good enough for the championship).
Well Pearson is light years away from being good enough for The Championship. And we don't know what this new regime will do, in terms of both owners and management team.
There is a big gulf between the championship & division one , surely some of the players that found it hard last season will be fine in this league , the last thing we want is a mass turn over of players & having to start again with a new squad , fans were adamant that they wanted players to be signed on longer contracts to avoid this happening . A few fresh faces would be fine but we do not want a repeat of last summers fiasco
I'd say the last thing we want is to once again have a squad that isn't good enough. And personally, I'd be trying to rectify last season's fiasco by replacing the players that made it one. Some of the players may well prove to be good enough in this league, but Pearson was one of the poorer signings and struggled to get a game. If we can get money for him we should take it and use it to replace with better. It seemed to be universally accepted that the major problem last season was the quality of the squad. Other factors didn't help, but top and bottom of it was the players weren't good enough. Now we want to keep all those players, even the ones that struggled to get a game? I don't get it. It's not like we're short on numbers, the squad is huge.
You don"t get it ? Well its all about opinions & my thoughts are that the gulf in class between the division is a key factor & a lot of the signings found it hard last year , but some of these signings were highly rated in the lower leagues & I feel sure with last years experience coupled with some good coaching the group just requires a little bit of quality adding to give us a chance , I just do not see the sense in wholesale changes . One footnote , we all know that we struggled last season but we were only 5 minutes away from stopping up , so some of these players cannot be that bad
So you're not open to selling any players in order to free up space in the squad for better players? Even players who rarely play.
And what difference has that made? The plan remains intact, and the new owners said they won’t be splashing the cash. We’ll continue to sell ‘quality’ and buy prospects. It’s our business model.
