If it suited him and our players as well as you're suggesting, why did we look so utterly poor in so many games? Your post makes out we were world beaters who avoided relegation, playing a system we looked entirely comfortably with. We didn't. The rhetoric about him playing down the middle is because from that position is where he created most of the moments that won him Player of the Year.
Possibly because there are ten other payers out on the pitch who needed to perform on a higher consistent level which unfortunately they didn"t but you can argue to the cows come home about which position he should have played but what you cannot argue with is his goal return , which was excellent , therefore playing him out wide worked , it was other areas of the pitch where we failed
Classic case of armchair gaffers thinking that they know better than those who are with our squad day in day out. It doesn’t half make me laugh.
Those who were with the squad day in day out have just been sacked for failing Those who were with the squad day in day out kept playing Adam Davies and nick Townsend. I as an armchair gaffer strongly believed that Jack Walton could do no worse. I was right, they were wrong. Just saying.
You were firmly of the belief that Jack Walton could do no worse based on what exactly? Presumably it’s just a massive punt as he wasn’t involved a Championship first team level, you don’t see him day in day out, U23 level is a country mile off first team level if you’ve even seen him there and you aren’t a Stalybridge Celtic follower. Morais brought Walton into the fold having observed him day in day out over a prolonged period. As for your comment :- I would hazard a guess that virtually every head coach/manager we’re linked with and/or shortlisting has been sacked for ‘failing’ elsewhere. Are you criticising Morais for playing McBurnie LF despite the latter’s success? It certainly seems that way from your opening gambit as that’s exactly what my comment was referring to.
You cannot say that it worked playing him wide - you have nothing to gauge it against. Maybe if he stays in the Championship and plays centrally then maybe. But I’d have a guess that if he does then he’s going to have a bigger score rate than he did while spending time with us as a part time left back.
Amusing anyone trying to defend Morais decision to play McBurnie as a left winger/wing back. I’d be happy to wager that a manager who actually knows what they are doing will play him as a centre forward.
Yes I can , I can gauge it against the goals scored column , which showed 9 against his name , if thats not successful I dont know what is . Regarding him playing as a part time left back , well if he had played central , he would still have had to work back when we were under the cosh or do you think that him & Moore should just stand up front all day ?
We will never know for sure as there’s valid points in both sides. His record (which supports both arguments)suggests he would have scored more goals that can’t be up for debate BUT what we don’t know is would he got the chances if we were weakend on the left, would we have scored more but conceded more/less?
You're an armchair gaffer. What do you know? I do know that regardless of whether I'm employed in football or not we benefited hugely having McBurnie on the pitch because he's such a talented footballer. Would we have got more goals out of him centrally? I'd hazard a guess that we would. Would we have had better protection on his side of the pitch with a different player playing the wide left role? I'd hazard a guess that we would. There is nothing sensible about your biggest goal threat being asked to track back to within 15 yards of his goal for the majority of games. If he plays up front, yes he tracks back, but nowhere near to the same level or with the same level of responsibility.
McBurnie's just been called up for Scotland's squad against Peru and Mexico. Lots of people annoyed that Liam Lindsay's not been called up.
Morais failed to do he job he was hired to do. Simple as that. It was a bigger out keeping Davies in the side than it was brining Walton in. That punt which the manager took saw us relegated
Yes. The Liam Lindsay who was in the 2016-17 Scottish Premiership team of the year. The one who at the start of the season was getting glowing reviews before his form dipped along with the rest of the team. He's 22. I'll never understand the pleasure some seem to take in slagging off the players of the team they profess to support.
Yes the Liam Lindsay that became a scapegoat for some, when the defence got changed every week, not the best environment for a young player to come into for his first season in the championship , would liked to have seen him with a seasoned player beside him. But as you say some can’t wait to slag off our own players
Brad Potts coming above Liam Lindsay in the fans player of the year votes confirmed to me that a lot of our fans are clueless. On McBurnie, I wanted to see him up top but it didn’t happen. Yes he did score goals whilst been a left winger but we also got ripped apart down that side a lot of times. Ultimately you can all argue it either way but there’s no way of knowing what the best option was as we pretty much only played that one system under Jose barring his first game & a last minute change at Ipswich if I remember correctly. If both had had at least a handful of games you’d be able to judge better
