they've been peddling that article worded slightly differently for a bout 3 weeks now, talk of us loaning him to them which is bonkers really.
Well if our wage bill is less than £2.25m, and McGeehan is on £6k a week, then some players might be leaving to earn more at other clubs by selling programs.
I didn't think the bloke who corrected me and said it would benefit the club as opposed to hamstringing it was right either. I just can't be arsed trawling back through the said thread.
I know, it was over £8 million last season in League One. It’ll be over £10 million this season. I suppose the only catch may be whether the £2.25 million figure includes NI and pension contributions, and if it disregards player bonuses. If it does, it’s just open for loopholes, players signing on a lower basic wage, with massive appearance fees, etc. Get relegated from the Premier League and you receive millions in parachute payments. Get relegated from the Championship and you have to cut your wage bill by three quarters. Seems about right.
If it's anything like the rugby league salary cap, expect to see some players' family members becoming very well paid club shop assistants.
And factor in the fact if we do go down many players will have a relegation clause written in their contracts
When did we sign him? We're we in League One at the time? If so, that's a fair amount considering we never pay any wages, allegedly.
Think it was in the summer window before 2017/18 season wasn't it? Same time as Potts, Malan and various other midfielders I can't remember.
Sounds mad in retrospect given the impact, or lack thereof, made this season. But I think we all thought that was good business when we extended his contract mid way through last season when he and Mowatt were playing out their skin every week. Before that he was due to be out of contract 3 weeks ago, and knowing Barnsley's model the thought process must have been "renew or get sold" Win some lose some, but what we did with McGeehan is exactly what we criticised the board for not doing with Hourihane*. *Yes Hourihane was better but McGeehan was undoubtedly highly influential in our promotion last year and who knows how he would have progressed the following year.
