Wasn't that Ron away at Charlton. We raced into an early 3 nil lead Ron was sent off Gordon Owen missed a pen and we lost 5-3 if my memory isn't playing up. If I remember rightly we went to Southampton a few days later in the cup and won 2-1. All a long time ago and some details might be wrong but happy days of thr Royston legion. Been a tough year lost a couple of old friends, Kev the cat and Conny now one of our true legends starting to feel very old. We are all a family joined by the irational love of our beloved reds and hard to lose any of our own.

That was definitely Ron. These days they'd both be booked in for a life coach for the foreseeable

I think your memory is spot on.

Been a funny old year for me as well, got divorced and spent the summer dashing to the bog due to a kidney stone (including Walsall away in the playoffs and at Wembley).

Very sad to see Futch go to this horrible disease, I just hope he didn't suffer too much.

Here's looking to better year in 2017....

I was at that game. Ron lost it completely and we fell apart. I think the old steep terracing on the right side of the ground was there still there, not used with weeds growing through the concrete.

I remember his performance when we beat West Ham 2-5 away at Upton Park in the Littlewoods Cup. We dragged it back to 2-2 before 90 minutes was up and put 3 past them in extra time. Futch was superb and I still recall him on a mazy run through the Hammers midfield. What a player. RIP

    Good read that.

My epitaph for Futch would simply read "RIP Paul Futcher - the world's only genuinely telepathic footballer".

Futch, May, Gray etc. Great players. We wouldn't have a chance of getting their quality and experience now.

They would either cost too much, or would have earned enough money in their careers to need not come to us for a wage.
