It's more than that though, it's someone's passion and livelihood.

I am far from being a nasty piece of work.
What I take an instant dislike to is someone who tells me I am a nasty piece of work. As some of the previous posters have said, if you challenge someone for their opinions then be prepared to accept their comments about you.
    It's only fair isn't it.
I think the ones who have caused that unspeakable damage are scum..... you think they are heroes and deserve a cuddle. Strange world we live in all round.

What a bizarre thread. I'm interested in learning more about the code of honour that animals have though.

I agree its only an old train......an old tain that numerous people have painstakingly put hours of their time to restore to its former glory
It's only an old train that creates an interest in society that in turn creates wealth for the local economy
It's only an old train that's part of the very fabric of society that enabled us to move around the country a society that appriciated others beliefs and un like the youth of today respected the property of others.
It's only an old train.....Sat there on the sidings in its splendour
It's only a pensioner of its age and a legacy of years gone by so yeah why not destroy a thing of beauty
I completely see the argument you set out
Yes it's only an old train yes it's part of the materialistic world we live in
However it's not yours it's not you who's put endless hours of time and effort into it holds no importance to your world it provides no pleasure so why should you care or show any respect for it or the very people involved who this mindless act of vandalism as effected.
I will tell you why you should care
It's called principles... personal responsibility without them and personal responsibility to the self and to others no matter what society. what ever your thinking can't survive without them ...maybe just maybe you should revisit your own belief patterns because without respect for others and their property even if it differs from others which clearly it does .
We can't live in a singular lawless society where dog eats dog to survive .
A society that has no moral boundaries to its fellow man

Yeah it might be just an old train from an age gone by but there's more to it and what it represents
Yeah it's only old , so is most of the population should we get rid of them too.

Very well said but trying to talk common sense to people like this is pretty much a waste of time. I suspect he comes from the don't give a damn about anything decent generation. Things that give pleasure to millions don't register on his scale at all. Ancient ruins and things of architectural beauty (if very old) will be just a pile old stones, not worth preserving, and should be smashed up.

Let's be reight here DusThaKnow can be a bit of a mentalist but cut the sh!te out with labelling a different generation to yours as not giving a toss about anything decent , there has been disrespectful f*ckwits in every generation since the dawn of time, including the one you belong to, sithi.

I am an architect with plenty of experience working on Grade 1 and 2 listed buildings, you presumptuous lunatic. I'm not sure any of you have been able to read anything I've said over the glare of your pitchforks and torches thus nonsense like this:
To reiterate and be glossed over yet again as you all snarl at me:
It is sad what happened and it is a criminal offence that should be punished but I won't accept calling for violence over it as Mr Badger or the egregious way Prince is talking about human beings.

ps also hilariously comical that mr badger says:
in the middle of not managing to do exactly that in the other direction. You people are bloody crazy

Where did I label his WHOLE generation? I'm not an idiot. I know very well that people of all ages and backgrounds can act like cretins. It has nothing to do with age, or class. Football imitates life in general - this is why I would not give Leeds or Millwall fans some kind of blanket description. There is good and bad in any kind of group or race or age group. There are more good people following clubs like this than bad, but it's the lowlifes who get all the attention.

I won't stoop to calling posters on here names or insulting them personally (like he has done to me) but I'm just as entitled to criticise what he said on this subject as he is to defend his view of it.

You must be an educated man to be an architect. All the more bizarre then that you should have come out with the garbage that you have been spouting on this thread since yesterday. All the more bizarre that you seem to have the attitude of a delinquent teenager.

Respond to this, or don't. I don't care any more. I've lost interest in your warped view of the world.

Missed the point again i see. Your mistake is someone seems to have told you what you think of me matters, it really doesn't. Condescend away your lack of respect for people is extremely telling.

In my experience, the "kids" who do this sort of thing are either those from deprived backgrounds who have bone to pick with society, or those from an especially privileged ones that have no respect for money/possessions and feel they are above everyone else. Obviously there are exceptions to the rule though...

The best way to educate the individuals who have caused the damage, is to make them help repair the damage. Hopefully that will make them appreciate how much work goes into a project like this and could also tech them a trade that could prove as a catalyst to a better future...

There's only 1 sensible solution to this and that's to get stocks back and let the public decide. This also goes for any other crime that anyone is found guilty of by a court of law.
