Brave decisions by Struber, but tactically and result wise it paid off. Should have scored more in first half. But rather than play attacking football non-stop we went defensive and saw the game out. We parked the bus and won. Nice to see for a change! The changes made sense to me - Ludwig more defensive than Odour, and Ritz tracked back a lot and put himself about. Then we brought Ben W on and went 3-5-2. Well done - gonna be some tired legs tonight though.
It was a game where we were our usual tidy superior selves - now without the odd previously guaranteed suicidal mistake - until we started crapping ourselves and stopped passing to each other and invited unnecessary pressure. Williams B coming on steadied the ship (surprised myself by saying that) and we saw it out quite professionally. Very well done reds.
Yeah exactly. It was a professional display from the players and good tactics from the bench. It’s a big sign from Struber, Rose and Murray that perhaps they now trust the back line a bit more. 10 games ago we wouldn’t have dared to park the bus. Matt Rose is no mug, and he’s had his work cut out with these. But he’s done well.
Excellent win. Need to keep the momentum going now. https://www.skysports.com/watch/video/sports/football/teams/hull-city/11944093/hull-0-1-barnsley
Best just to brush it under carpet. Great win but when you start high fiving n' canoodling it's where you come unstuck.
Is it me or has he started to look commanding in his box in terms of coming for crosses? Still needs to improve his kicking.
I think his distribution was pretty decent, apart from a few shanks under pressure late on. He impressed me with his finding the wide man regularly
I found myself shouting “pass the ball!” at the TV at times in the second half. They couldn’t get it off us in the first half but we kept gifting it to them between minutes 60 and 80.
I'm still making my mind up about Brown. There are times when it's clear he's caught in two minds. Like in the 90+ minute when he was clean through and couldn't make his mind up whether to dart for goal or run down the clock, turned into trouble looking for a team mate and in the end did neither. He lost the ball in the process and Hull City attacked. It didn't matter this time but he's been doing stuff like this all season. He needs to brush up on his finishing too. Can't knock him for effort but if he's going to earn big bucks and get a dream move these are things he's going to need to work on.
I agree with all that. He certainly needs more conviction in his finishing. His shots have the pace of pass backs. I reckon he’ll get there in time though.
Might be a lone voice but I think Jacob has been absolutely fantastic this season. He may well have a better goal return but he's probably the only player we have capable of getting in the positions he does - the goals will come. He missed the start of the season after a bad injury and is playing in the Championship for the first time in a combination of different roles, some alien to him. He has responded magnificently and doesn't look out of place at all. He has a spot in the top five assists table in the league and is a real handful for all the defences we come up against - him and Chaplin often keeping four defenders occupied between them. Jacob is the go-to player for goalkeeper clearances, winning headers he has no right to against much bigger centre-backs. So often sets the tone for the others when he's buzzing around, chasing back and winning crunching tackles a la Saturday. One of the first names on the team sheet for me.
You are not a lone voice- I think he has been one of our 4 stand out players this season I agree he needs to improve his finishing, he was decent at finishing last season and I am sure it will come, but his all round game has been really important to us. Dont forget he is only 21 and playing his first season at this level in an inexperienced site so there is plenty of time for him to get better. We would be a much poorer side without him in it
Totally agree. Goals aside, he’s now a Championship level player. Not scared of taking on and beating his man. The goals will come in time. His 90th minute run last night showed maturity. Too easy to have a shot - he was trying to keep possession and run down time.
