This headline in YPost website. Not looking like A Mowatt is looking to resign for us if this is anything to go at and the deadine less than two weeks to go. Can't see club letting this run til the summer when he can go for free.
As I see it: AM hasn’t had an offer that’ll make him significantly financially / personally better off than he has currently. Either from Barnsley or AN Other, he probably thinks that a signing on bonus may improve that situation in the summer. Whether from us or someone else. The club have a captain they want to keep, so far their salary offers haven’t been enough to get him to re-sign. If they keep him till summer they forego any xfer fee but maintain stable squad. And none of the offers that have come in are enough to buy a suitable replacement. There’s no financial incentive for either side to rush into a decision when the status quo is working fine.
I think he's holding out to see if he can get a better deal elsewhere. He might not necessarily have had a better offer. I don't think we're looking to cash in, and to be honest, unless a replacement comes in first (or a left wing back so Styles can move inside), I can't see him leaving this window.
I think he'll play the season out and get a big signing on fee or increased wages in the summer. Clubs may have a bit of money to spend if there are signs fans might be allowed back in grounds next season.
The frustrating thing is, he'll go and the club will earmark a number of young replacements that add up to a commitment of a few million over a few years in transfer / signing on fees and wages.
I do wonder if they separate budgets between capital and revenue? I do agree, its a false economy. Though I suspect his agent is advising him to hold his water til he's out of contract. 5 months isn't a long time to wait at all.
Think it's obvious really or he would have signed by now. Will run his contracts down.. no fee so a bigger sign on fee, good luck too him. Players come and go
Personally, and I know nowt, I think Mowatt will see his contract out. Any suitor can use the transfer fee they won't pay the club to bump up his wages.
I still don’t get how we can’t offer him a “signing on fee”, and then pay wages as is. In effect improving his wages whilst keeping the wage structure... We would have to do that anyway with any incoming player....
Ah but there is an hole in that cupboard dear Gordon, dear Gordon. It was made by the mole that used to frequent the offices
