This would be my team from a bunch of ex-red players: goal keeper : PAUL MALCOLM Defender (1): Mark Ogley Defender (2) Tom Williams Defender (3) : Chris Hedworth Defender (4) : Peter Sands Midfielder (1) : Andy Blair (had him on loan from Villa back in the 80's) Midfielder (2) : Mick Clarke Midfielder (3) : Craig Rocastle Midfielder (4) : Troy Bennett Striker (1) : Dave Regis Striker (2) : John Pearson Could be more Permatations but thats mine!
Troy Bennett??
A bit harsh on the lad, don't you think?
He was only a nip and was a VERY good young prospect along with Jacko, Dave Brooke etc of that age group. Luke Beckett was in the same age group and never got a game in the intermediates but went on to succeed after leaving Oakwell.
Oh, and Peter Sand was a midfielder not that anyone would know seeing as he never played.

Nah not harsh, was crap. Even Mr Machin saw that and put him on the transfer list even then couldn't get rid.
And Phil Gray who came on loan from Spurs... played the 1st half one game in Clarke's era only to be subbed and never seen again apart from scoring for Luton and Sunderland against us!!
RE: And Phil Gray who came on loan from Spurs... Ah yes! And i think the other loan player at the same time has gray, was Lee Glover wasn't it?
can't argue with that, but i would also add on the bench
kevin donovan
willy(the fridge)ferry
stuart rimmer
simon jeffels
i remember when we had andy blair on loan ,i think we had 'uddersfeild at home, back end of the 87/88 season and he got loads of abuse from the ponty faithfull for being an ex wendy player and for being a bit w**k

Tha dunt know what tha talkin abart Andy..... Troy was never put on the list by Machin cos he was sacked just after troys debut (against Sarfend, I fink) when the lad was 17-18.
Pick on somebody worse like Willy Ferry or summat

Jeffels just missed out the starting eleven. Rimmer not sure he deserves to be in, i thought he was good.Did a job for us anyway.
True......... Glover looked a good player although he couldn't hit your ass from 10mm. They were the days of the horrible navy blue away kit - Beever me thinks.
In fact that year Port Vale played us at Oakwell wearing out away kit and they beat us 3-0. Robbie Earle made us look like amateurs.

It might be worth remembering that most of these players played when we were in the old 1st division and would probably be as good if not better than some of the current first team squad!!
Nope... He ended up being released and went to Scarborough after his dad died, which obviously hit him very hard.
I laiked in the same Barnsley boys side as him David Brooke, Jacko, Gregg Morgan, Luke Beckett etc and out of the lot Beckett would have been the last apart from me of course.
Troy was probably the best footballer out of em. Jacko was an out and out goalscorer, which we could have done with now. Put it this way if Tommy Wright is worth 50k then Jacko would have been worth 10 times that in todays market at the ame age.

RE: What about the one that dropped us into this God forsaken division? I think the star of that team was Richard Naylor! Would love to know what our wage bill was for that season!
RE: What about the one that dropped us into this God forsaken division? richard naylor, the last few depressing years are all his fault, stopped us going up then helped send us down.....the b*stard
