Mike Ashley confirming in today's paper he's unable to provide Benitez with the cash he wants to assemble a squad to compete at the top end of the Premiership. He's reportedly open to offers to sell the Club and is rumoured to be willing to reduce his £380 million asking price following interest from several investors. For his part, Benitez is quoted as saying that following his six seasons at Liverpool, he would have been happy to spend the rest of his career at Anfield. He left in 2010 after becoming disillusioned with the new owners. He said the original owners understood football, but didn't have the cash to make sure they could remain competitive and so they sold the Club. He says the new owners ran it more as a business. He was given a mere £17 million and told he has to win the title against clubs with massive amounts of money, so he walked.
