Next year with F1 being on BBC will that mean we dont have to see Lewis' dad as much?

    Simply not true Micky

The BBC did NOT show every race in its entirety before they lost the rights to ITV.

Presumably around 15 years ago your TV was able to pick up more BBC channels than mine was, I only got a third BBC channel in 1997 and that was only BBC news 24, before that it was just 1 and 2 and i'm sure i'd have noticed if it was on one of those two. Or was F1 shown on the likes of UK gold? The BBC channel with adverts.

But that wasn't what Jay suggested!!

"in its entirety" is a very different beast to 'not at all', which was the statement to which I replied. When BBC Sport had the F1 contract, they showed every race. Mind, I've only worked in the department for twenty years, so what would I know??

    Now you're being silly.

Televised sport has moved on since we last had the F1 contract. Given the daft £££ we've thrown at it this time, I think it's safe to say it'll be given a prime slot.

Makes you wonder why the BBC would waste 'daft money'

on something that is already being shown on tv

Have you had any response to the question of why fishing never gets shown yet?

I don't like watching fishing like but still it should get the same respect as other minority sports.

    No they bloody didn't

Your memory of working for the BBC is no better than mine as a viewer. In fact, I'd say mine is a lot more reliable (mainly because I'm right) but more pertinently because I was the one wanting to watch the grand prix and you could well have been working on an entirely different sports show. You're just so wrong on this. Tell me, just for the record, how many Grand Prix races have you actually worked on?

As I said earlier, Jay, I don't want to argue with you.

    Thanks for the information.

Because that's how sporting contracts work.

Somebody was 'already' showing FA Cup and England internationals, but the FA decided they'd try ITV and Setanta for a bit. Same with 5/6-Nations Rugby, League football and now, obviously, F1. No doubt when Bernie has tired of the BBC's involvement in F1, he'll start listening to approaches from ITV again. Or Sky. Or Setanta. For the record, I agree with you on the money front - we were all set for live Tuesday night Champions League until the F1 contract came up for grabs. Thrilling though yesterday was, motorsport generally leaves me cold - dominated by the team owners with the most money to burn. I can think of better ways BBC Sport could have invested the licence fee.

A good post well made, and I agree with what you say about motorsport and rich companies too (unfortunatly).

Is there a set amount of hours that the BBC must dedicate to sport or does it change as and when?
