Dont think that will happen that nudge. We wont be blowing the sort of money needed to make this a permanent signing
Why not? We had an owner worth about £60 million. We now have owners worth about £15 BILLION. There is also a few million (15 ?) left over from previous sales. So I would have thought about £4 million for Fletcher isn't out of the way. Let's see what the new owners are made of.
I dont disagree with the figures you mention. We likely have the money. I just dont see us doing it to be honest.
Neither do I. But is this because - we as Barnsley fans are not used to such recruitment? And importantly - if we need to compete in the Championship then this is exactly the type of player Barnsley should be buying. That is - young - tried and tested at this level - and a player the manager already knows.
I knew what you were getting at. Did we not finish 6th? Took a long time for some of those players to get upto that standard expecting the quality of player we are and "step up" is a massive ask.
Fair comment. Maybe the pay structure could be revisited but within the plan imo. We cannot and must not overrun our income imo
In our current position , you do not want to spend £4 on a unproven championship player , surely that kind of money , even in todays market should buy you the finished article , you can still buy a lot of striker for £4 million
Because 20 months since Wembley, we a re still talking about Fletcher's 'potential', not what he has achieved in between. If Boro are happy to take a £5-6m loss on him yes, it's worth a punt...
I think we almoat got too over confident with the plan and went and signed players from a even lower standard. What is the plan? Sign players and sell them on at a profit? But at rhe total disregard for the consequences this has on results. That is where the re think is needed.
We went wrong by letting too many go at the same time. Let one or 2 go yes. The replacements then have 9 other team mates to help bring up to speed. At the minute we have more or less an entire team trying to get up to speed at the same time. I understand and get the plan. But the high turn over is way too much
Surely the players who might be upset by someone coming in on a higher salary would be less upset if said player helped keep them up and prevent the relegation reduction clause in their own wages kicking in! Anyway, if someone comes in on loan, we don't pay their wages, we pay a loan fee.
Middlesborough can say whatever they want about only selling but the facts are they won’t get anywhere near the £7-8m they paid for him right now. So the choice is either sell him & take about a £5m hit on a player they only signed 5 months ago. Keep him & he’ll rot in the reserves & not improve. Or loan him out where he has a chance to get back to his best form at a club where the manager knows how to get the best out of him & the added bonus of us paying some of his wage. I’d say it’s pretty obvious what the best solution is.
What do we include under the heading of income? We have all heard the comment that transfer income cannot be used to subsidise wages which is total nonsense. The Club has generated somewhere in excess of £20M in transfer income over the last two years but we are looking at League Two and Nation League players because we cannot move forward on wages. This a simplistic strategy and not fit for purpose in the Championship ,a proportion of transfer income will always be required to subsidise wages ,the trick is to strike a balance and limit risk!
Exactly so but do we spend everything we make on players wages ,!Do we stagnate the ground and facilities for players wages ? Do we stand still as a Football club to facilitate players wages or do we balance them with a plan
The key is balance and a more comprehensive strategy. What has the plan delivered on renewing infrastructure? The repainting of the toilets and the imminent resurfacing of the indoor playing surface underline the backlog in maintenance .
I'm not sure what Ashley Fletcher has done to warrant a 7 million pound price last summer or over 20k a week in wages could you tell me? Unproven at championship level in fact I think is only goal this season was that own goal at oakwell
