Australian cases spike to 3x that of UK and Serbia. Politician facing issues over testing and COVID policy with election looming revokes visa. Am I just being overly cynical? Maybe Boris is cooking up his new plan for Wimbledon...
And rightly so. I was beginning to think that Dominic Cummings had become his script writer judging by the waffling statements he has come out with this week to explain away him not being in isolation when he tested positive in December. I have to say that it has occurred to me that perhaps he never did have Covid and that it was just an invention for him to get around not being vaccinated.
I shouldn’t laugh but serves him right Don’t get me wrong I don’t think Australia have acted well at all here. And I don’t think if you want to host major sporting events it’s right to insist young fit sportsmen and women are forced to take a vaccine. I actually have a lot more sympathy for Vorucova who was also departed a couple of days ago. She is partly vaccinated and couldn't get her last jab because she really did get Covid and the recommendation is to wait 3 months before being jabbed. She also says she intends to get her second one as soon as the 3 months is up She correctly filled in the application was given a visa and allowed into the country. The. Retrospectively we no sign she has done anything wrong she was kicked out. That’s just wrong Unlike some others who lied on their application form
Tough call, I think, on one hand can see the argument about a young fit sportsman etc but on other hand the rules are not about just him, what happens if he is a ‘carrier’ and infects others as a result etc. He also made it clear he wouldn’t get vaccinated, which suggests he always believed he would be exempt somehow and lie, another posted, how would he have competed without contracting it with perfect timing. From what I’ve read he could in theory end up with a 3 year ban from Australia but I suspect he will go home and Australia will waiver that.
I think he just shows total disrespect to people to others by not isolating when supposedly tested positive......he thinks he is above having to do what normal folk have to do......personally I am glad he won’t be able play now and he has only himself to blame
When Government unilaterally overrules the findings of the Courts - isn't that pretty much the definition of a totalitarian state?
In this case its not so simple for 2 reasons - the first is that the court only ruled that Djokovic was not handled correctly by immegration - not that his visa was valid Second it has come to light that he lied on his visa application So for @Tyketical Masterstroke to claim the government is overruling the courts in this case is not actually applicable I must admit though announcing the visa is revoked at 6pm Friday evening - after the courts have closed for the weekend limiting the chance of an appeal isnt a good look As I said earlier in this thread I have more of a problem with the cancellation of Voracova's visa - but she is a lesser tennis name so has had far less coverage https://www.tennis365.com/tennis-news/wta-renata-voracova-visa/
The first decision should have stood he should be deported. He broke the rules he should have to stand by it
Had the Australian Immegration officials followed the rules he may well have been - the only reason the Judge gave for allowing the first appeal was that the Aussie Immegration department acted incorrectly
Think its all political now for Novax, Aussi public apparently not very happy about him getting the Visa, so its a no brainer to cancel it from the government ministers point of view - yes a few Serbian locals will get their knickers in a twist but popularity wise it makes sense, whether that's the right decision or not is another matter. Bad news for Novax is that he can't get another Visa for 3 years after that, so he's pretty much never going to win the Australian open again! The bloke is a bit of tool, so can't say I'm crying many tears for him, but it does highlight to me the prissy way many governments act towards people trying to go about their business and/or see family and make a living - it can all come down to some border security proto-fascist as to whether you gain entry to these places and they love the power.
It's no doubt got political, however IMO he's made it that way through his actions. One of the biggest names in world sport and he has quite frankly taken the pi$$ with his anti-vax stance. Being anti-vax is one thing. Breaking the rules, lying and falsifying documents is another. And that's before we talk about his bat$hit mental Adria Tour. For me he's just another example of elite personalities thinking they're above the law.
I thought that the second I heard he’d got an exception through a perfectly timed positive test. Didn’t want to post though as obviously had nothing to base it on other than his previous behaviour.
Didn't he state on his forms that he had only been to Serbia in the previous month - then photos came out with him (sans mask) in Marbella in that period?
Yes He claims his agent filled in his form and "forgot" he had been to spain Now I dont know about you but whenever I have applied for a visa anywhere I triple check it before I send it off Anyway he is being detained again pending his appeal which has now been kicked upstairs to the federal court to look at tomorrow Aussie time ( overnight for us)
