Fine margins in this league. If only we could’ve converted some of those draws into wins, we’d be safe already!
Essentially 3 points from being out of the relegation places (I think). Our run in is taking away most of my hope though.
Yep, just the small matter of games against Leeds, Forest and Brentford to navigate now. Piece of ****.
Forest are assured of a play off place if they beat Swansea tomorrow (I think). We also have a decent record against them at Oakwell - that’s probably the only game I could see us getting points from.
Didn't lose to West Brom and did the double on Fulham. Look where they both are in the table. We play better against better teams where we are expected to get tonked and Leeds annually fluff their lines, so it wouldn't be a shock if they have to wait one more game for promotion.
Brentford have to beat Preston tonight otherwise Leeds can clinch title against us with a draw, Forest beat Swansea they are guaranteed play offs, so suppose ideal world is Brentford, Forest and us to win.
I reckon we’ll do it. We play a lot better against teams at the top. Recon 2 wins will be enough and I think they’ll come. Win tomorrow and we’re out of the relegation zone.
We have pulled the rabbit out of the hat before at Elland rd & I just fancy we might just do it again , of course this could be blind optimism but I am going for a 3 points return winning by the odd goal 2 v 1
Wouldn't we still be 22nd? Beneath Charlton on goal difference (assuming Charlton don't beat Brum tonight —which they likely will)? And, then, even with Wigan's deduction, wouldn't we still be 22nd on goal difference? It's clear that those 3 draws are what will relegate us; 6 more points and we'd be basically out of it. I don't really like critiquing football managers; I've never been one, obviously, and I imagine that the pressure is immense, and that the necessary faith in one's ability that enables you to become a manager means that you often have blinkers on when it comes to tactics/preferred styles etc. That said, I really cannot understand why (if Wigan was a do or die game, which it clearly was): a) GS persisted with zero width for 90 minutes, even when they had ten men, and when it wasn't generating chances, b) waited until the 82nd minute to throw Schmidt on, c) the 87th minute before deciding to use Halme as a big boy up top to fling it to? Seriously, what's PS gonna do with 8 minutes when he's not started a game since 1906? What's Halme gonna do in 3 minutes? Anyway, miracles can happen: that's football. Let's ruin Leeds' massive massive massive coming home party — I just wouldn't bet it.
Wigan’s point deduction puts them at 45, same as the other 2 in the relegation zone right now. A win would put us on 46
Wigan's punishment could have them finish 22nd and relegate the team that might have finished 22nd but for Wigan's deduction. However, without the deduction there would be no prize for finishing 22nd. Where's Sarah Connor?
