What success is this? His signing on fee and salary? The £3m we have in the bank? The 0 number of games he has played since? Exactly what kind of message are the club sending out with this ridiculous branding? It is instilling an attitude of self-servatude over commitment and loyalty. Inspiring these kids to leave for the dollar before they have hardly kicked a ball.

I don't really care what they called the gym, it's not at all important. Bit I would suggest 10 years, 300 games and an active community involvement is a far more aspirational goal for any young player.

I'm not saying that Stonesy hasn't put maximum effort into his fitness and strength regime but to name a gym after someone who has only been training for 2 years is laughable.

Having been professionally involved in the gym/fitness/bodybuilding industry all my life and my family for 30+ years, I must admit that this subject has got my back up a bit. It's bound to piss the other players off as well.
What John Stones achieved was magnificent and was mostly down to his fantastic footballing ability. Imo, a better idea would have been to name the academy after him. I think this would have been much more fitting and would inspire new youngsters coming through.

apart from the aqueducts, roads, equalizer against liverpool, equalizer in the last minute against Cardiff, goal line clearance at Hillsborough, being consummate professionals throughout their time at oakwell, not whinging like the overpaid poodles in the premier league, being involved in the local community, giving their all in many successful relegation battles, showing great pride in playing for a club not of their own town, being accepted by nearly all Barnsley fans as 'one of us'

I ask you 'What have Hassell and Foster done to be looked up to?'

Ah you mean like that premiership regular with more medals than Michael Phelps and a host of premiership games to his name. Lets face it, Imogen Thomas has seen more premiership action than Stones has.

    John Stones Honours: 0
    John Stones Club honours: 0

John Stones England international appearances: 0

And before you say it, no under pissing 19's doesnt count, anyone who's playing football regularly at 18 gets called up for that, only a tiny percentage go on to play with the big boys.

    Re: Excellent idea

Personally I think stones has done well for himself. But I don't think we need to e making it such a huge thing for young players to look up to him yet! He's played half a season at first team level. Then moved to a different club! Do we want our youngsters to do well an stay at barnsley for 5-10 years. Or do well and get sold to the 1st or 2nd bidder? I think a lot of players will go back in to start pre season and find it funny that there gym has been renamed the John stones fitness suite

I think it's a bit embarrassing really. The club is basically saying to players, 'be like Stones. Play half a season and then force the clubs hand (according to Don Rowing) by engineering a move away'.

The scene in a few weeks' time. Half a dozen Championship clubs are after Stones on a season long loan...Flicker starts his pitch with..."Now come home for a season Stonesy...we've even named the gym after you"

    Just a thought...

    I think it's bizarre.

He told the Chron (DF) that it was to be named after a club legend...

Stones is only a legend in Hemswoggles mind.
