Sounds like a 100% credible source.

    Where are we moving to?

Just worked on a rework of a Lower league teams stadium to a positive response at public consultation... I'm open to designing a new oakwell if they need an architect ;)

Not saying it's true, but if we did move the final Oakwell match will be one of the most emotional days of my life(excluding the birth of my kids). The place has been part of every Barnsley fans life for so long...

What helps make Oakwell special to me is it's close proximity to Tarn. I get the traffic congestion arguments and the club could make a lot more on catering etc. If Tarn wasn't so close, but an out of town soulless bowl-type stadia doesn't appeal to me at all.

For me, Oakwell is the best football ground in the world because it is OURS! Its the place my Grandad took all my uncles, and later me and my cousin to as kids, which helped us to fall in love with the sport and our team.

My eldest is 13, and he has a season ticket and loves the place. My youngest is 4, and I just can't imagine not taking her to the 'Well when she gets into it...

Just been listening to Radio Dee Dar and Hecky being interviewed about the signing
of Gary Gardner. If the story about leaving Oakwell had any credibility at all, it would surely
be the lead story.? No mention of any takeover was mentioned either.
Personally I think this story is akin to the waste product that emanates from the rear end of a bull.!

Indeed. Build one new stand, fill in a couple of corners and add some decent big screens, and we'll have a very modern 30,000 capacity all-seater stadium, full of its original character, which everyone will be extremely proud of. Total cost - I'd guess around £10 million. Or - demolish a 3/4 renovated stadium, buy some new land miles away from the town centre, build a flatpack stadium from scratch, and we'll have a very modern, 30,000 seater stadium, devoid of character, which will have cost a minimum of £40-£50 million. And have p1ssed off a lot of fans into the bargain. For these reasons alone I can't remotely imagine that anyone would consider moving to be a good idea. Especially if they're the ones paying for it.

I think thats the only thing missing now from the 'new' Oakwell, the horrible old West Stand has to be pulled down and rebuilt and something should be done in the corner areas.
We really don't need to move anywhere else and shouldn't be forced to.

I personally love the West Stand, and often sit in the lower tier when the weather is ok. I'm fully aware however that long-term it's not viable and needs to be replaced

Don't get me wrong I know this is 99.99999% likely to be b*llocks, but yes Oakwell was kind of refurbished in the 90's but only half a job was done so 'finishing off' what has already been done would be a counter-productive given how much building methods and the required facilities have changed. If someone was dead set on modernising Oakwell and had the money, the best bet would be to start with the West and then go back around anti-clockwise. The Ponte and East Stand are getting on for 25 years old and the facilities are severely dated, even if they don't look that bad on the outside.

The West stand looks like an eye sore to be honest, but I can see why fans look at it as the last piece of a former part of our history. pulling it down will be like ending the memories of the 70s 80s & early 90s.
