Unsurprisingly, we were battered today by a vastly superior team. We particularly struggled down our left side, where Elder was terrorised by their right winger, though to be fair to him he was afforded very little protection by Kent ahead of him, which was particularly exposed for their first goal. The defending for the third, Christ, with Jackson having a big air shot at a keepers punt down the field and then McDonald not committing to the second ball, wow, it was bloody awful. We played a 4-5-1 for the majority of the game. It didn't work, partly because Newcastle are just very strong and well organised at the back, and partly because Bradshaw is too weak to effectively hold the ball up. Paul Wilkinson, he most certainly isn't. We just do not have the personnel unfortunately for the system. People won't like this, but that team today is a relegation squad, and that's not only my opinion, but it's borne out by results since January. If you take Scowen, Kent, James and Watkins out of it, as appears likely, then before signings then I am sorry but we are rotherham. I know everyone knows this. But Hacky is right, we need ten players. And several of those players need to be able to be competitive at the championship level pretty much immediately, which will be especially difficult. Ah well, a busy summer.
I'd say we need 10 championship ready first team players. With 5/6 squad players. A massive ask. I saw the same game as you though. Sent from my iPad using Barnsley FC BBS Fans Forum
If we want to compete the club needs to be sold in the summer or we need to dig up the Mawson, Hourihane, Bree transfer money, Holgate appearance money, 14k gate receipts & the £6 million championship revenue.
On train back home now , got steve agnew , joe jordan sat in front of us . Been a good weekend apart from result today
Let's hope the powers that be give Hecky the tools he needs regarding players coming in i.e. a chief exec for starters or we will be scrambling around mid august for players just to fill the squad. Honestly do think that Hecky will walk if the lack of chief exec drags on into summer and we start missing out on players because of it. UTR
Jordan was at the Burton game. Ask him who they're keeping tabs on. Sent from my SM-G850F using Tapatalk
We are standing at the crossroads. Hecky is at a white Robert Johnson. Will he sell his soul to the devil?
