I don't think you just pidgeon hole any player/manager either on experience, age, nationality etc. There are exceptions to every rule.

Wilson, Val, Helik, Stones etc etc.

You could go on 10 dates and not click with a lass. Then see one in ASDA checkout queue and end up marrying her. I'm certain there's no exact science. You've just got to drop lucky. Right time and place.

 

Sunderland had the best squad. Remember they still had Prem players on their books like Cattermole and Mcgeady. No disrespect to Beth or Whitey but do you really think they could have delivered the football we enjoyed that season seriously?

As to the following season, we had to start with an entirely new defence, n9 experience whatsoever. Collins and Mads, Cauley Styles all have 2 more years champ experience under their belt now.

 

For me, had they appointed Moore when they appointed Pulis, they'd have stayed up last season comfortably, even with their points deduction. He turned them around after Pulis had pulled the wool over the chairman's eyes with his supposed style of play. 3 more matches and they'd have beat the drop I reckon.
