Since seeing your post I have been trying to think of names to throw into the hat to suggest too but had no luck. This year will be super tough to stay up as the money spent by the bigger clubs in this league is beyond a joke now. We are in the second tier of English football and teams are spending 30 million plus on signings.

Well they can - it depends who they are and how well they fit in
As mentioned above Hammill and Long made a great impact to our young team we have had others who have come in and made a real difference as well, but for every Kevin long there is an Emmanuel Frimpong.

Id like to see an experienced defender - unfortunately John Terry has gone :) but I dont know who is available that would be affordable to us who would really improve things

Depends where we want the experience. In midfield, possibly Joe Ledley, central defence, Chico. Both 30, without a club, and got plenty of Premier League experience. Our ability to afford them is another matter entirely!

Don't know if he is too old now (probably but younger than Terry), but someone like Joleon Lescot could be good if we could include coaching towards the UEFA badges as part of the deal (if he wants to do that). Even if he is no longer suitable for the first team, playing with someone like him in the U23s could really help the development of the younger players. A lot depends on whether he wants a final payday or just wants to play for as long as possible - although it does sound like he has a dodgy knee but played in the last game for Sunderland at Chelsea...

Other options are available - https://www.transfermarkt.com/statistik/vertragslosespieler . Always surprised clubs don't invite some of the players on this list for a trial. Must be some good ones who are out of favour at their last club but could do a good job for us. Even if it is just to bring in experience on a short-term deal.

Well yes of course and I know we don't need journeymen who are looking for a final few paydays with another club (Leroy Lita take note!).
Hammill is at that age where the kids could look to him for advice, and those sort of players are very important.
