Horrible news to take in. Futch was one of my heroes, along with the now departed Billy Ronson.

I really hope that we acknowledge this tomorrow night. He was such a special player. RIP Paul Futcher.

That west ham game season was my first one. I had the yellow kit with a black stripe down it, aged 8 or 9. Futcher was part of the team that won my heart. He seemed about 50 to me then as a young lad, but he was so good! Always played the ball out and seemed a part of the midfield which really stood out in those days. And I remember him scoring a few. Sadly missed, a reight player.

Best own goal I've ever seen, one of the worst penalties I've ever seen, brought about one of the greatest saves I've ever seen from Neville Southall and just the most classy and cultured centre half I've ever had the pleasure of watching. A wonderful footballer who made the game beautiful. Thanks for the memories Paul, they'll stay with me my entire life.
