Dont happen I'm afraid. Still a risk to the transfer, Conway even stated about the transfer saying you can only take what's on the table at the time if the player wants to go. To keep these players we need to change our reputation, income, crowds etc.. Don't worry though Covid-19 will change football.
I'm not we were probably the only club in the league operating in the black. Dane's comments are to sell season tickets.
Pinnock is top drawer, an all round class act both person and player. We might have got more for him but that’s gone now and not his fault. Brentford remind me of us when we were about to hit the heights. Really hope they do it (after slipping up against us) and expect Ethan to spend the next few years in the Prem.
On a personal level I’m glad he’s doing well but I hope Brentford fail to go up. It’s ridiculous. Sky hyping them up like they’re some fairytale like they did with Bournemouth. It’s a joke. Taking Jansson from Leeds & increasing his wages. How can they pay more than Leeds? They shouldn’t be able to offer more than us never mind Leeds. I’m hoping West Brom & Fulham go up & neither Brentford or Leeds get up through the play offs.
Me too. We had him on contract for another year. If he wants a good move at the end of that year (on a free) he has to keep up his performance levels. Everything about Pinnock suggests to me that he would have done. I thought our owners were hard-headed business people? The logic of accepting that everyone we receive an offer for must be sold is that we can no longer consistently be a Championship club. That's a fairly miserable lack of ambition, given our history.
The mistake we made with Pinnock was not that we let him go, we had no real choice in that matter with the money offered to him, but that we didn't get him on a long contract when we signed him. A mistake we appear desperate to avoid again if you look at the length of contracts we get players on now.
I hope the owners learn from what they’ve done it’s constantly 1 step forwards 2 steps back it infuriating. Not an issue players come and go it’s part of the game but we’ve never learned contractually or offset some of the money made in previous transfers to improve wages to get players to resign. Just look over the last 5 years 20 millions worth of talent that would’ve sold for 40-60 if the players had of been at a ‘Peterborough’. £3 million for Pinnock after the sale of Lindsay and Davies is a joke we lose 6 million in revenue for relegation so if we dont stay up the gamble has worked against us (AGAIN). We made the same mistakes 2 years prior. We never learn. Cauley woodrow will be the next to go again for well below his worth a 1 in 2 goal striker we won’t see a better striker than him at oakwell for a long time. Back to pinnock I really enjoyed watching him last night and it was no surprise to hear the plaudits. Having developed late I really hope he gets a shot at the premier league he deserves it he looks to be getting better and better as time goes on just a shame he wasn’t a few years younger. Last season was in best defence in football league this season in the best defence in the championship coincidence... not at all he’s in the top 2-3 defenders in the championship.
Totally agree. If a player’s head is turned and they’ve their agent pecking away too you just sell. The only clubs who tend to be able to fend this off, are Liverpool and Man City currently. Arsenal sold Henry, Van Persie, Overmars, Petit, Fabregas, Sanchez etc for the exact reasons we sold Pinnock. I get the reasons why we could have made him stay and he could have gone for free, but folk don’t realise this doesn’t work for bigger clubs than us so won’t work for us either. It’s just how us and most other clubs have to operate.
Same with me although I have come to terms with the knowledge that we cannot expect to be able to compete ‘with the likes of’ Bournemouth, Burnley, Brentford, Millwall, Carlisle, Stevenage, Harrogate Town, Worsbrough Bridge MW or Darfield Road Rangers. And I must admit, I do feel better for it.
Folks talk as if this contract situation has been around for ever. Since Bosman 1995. Clubs have realised that the only return you can get on an individual player is to pay megabucks wages via a contract extension. Or Cash in at the right time. A club will wait six months and wait till a contract ends or offer below value if there isn’t a bunfight for the player. And a player may wait 6 months to achieve a free and get a massive signing on fee. Things are not as simple as pre Bosman. Suppose some of the folk on here will make up the difference in lost fees.
Get real. Absolutely no way that would have happened, wouldn't have had the heart to keep performing. Only want players committed to the club on the field.
Wish they'd left him on, he was **** - even the commentators commenting on how he just hoofs it under pressure.
We should have kept him, the fee we got was terrible better to finish comfortably mid table and lose him on a free, our survival would have been worth more, we got lucky in the end and stayed up via financial fair play even though we were one of the three shittest teams in league
