Fantastic post. I've just got back from Italy and was surprised by the level of admiration for our Queen. Regardless of the fact she alone brings billions into our economy she is a lady upon whom many could use as a glowing example . A family at times in disarray but I cannot remember one example of her bringing negative attention to herself or the monarchy. She was even prepared to shake hands with the criminal who organised the murder of her husband's uncle. She is beyond reproach and I for one will be celebrating this weekend.
Medieval institution. You'd think we'd have more sense in 2022. Should have followed the lead of France and got shut.
Beyond reproach? What about the fact she wanted to use a poverty fund to pay for her heating? Or the fact she spoke out about climate change then lobbied for her estate to be exempted from green energy laws. She's a hypocritical leech, they all are. Good on her for forgiving the murderer, but shame on her family for protecting her nonce son, and for sending her mentally disabled cousins to a psychiatric hospital for life then completely shunning them and falsely claiming they were dead. As for her bringing in billions alone, you're assuming nobody would visit the palaces etc if we got rid of the monarchy. 6m people per year visit Versailles...
I admire the Queen and completely respect everything she has done for this country. I'll not pass comment on the leech bit of your reply. The last time you called the recently deceased Phillip a leech you didn't appreciate my reply and had a proper hissy fit.
I called the Queen a parasite, not Philip a leech. You then tried to draw parallels between my comment and the murder of David Amess and suggested my children would grow up to be maladjusted due to my views. So I called you a ****. Because you were being a ****.
Am I wrong here wasn't the Queen crowned in 1953 if so that makes it 69 years, not 70, maybe it's a re-run for next year?.
She became Queen the second her dad died. The Coronation was held the year after to allow the usual period of mourning to pass.
She became Queen on the death of her father in February 1952 but they had to wait until 1953 for the Coronation so that Netflix could be there.
They're getting it in before she snuffs it. Besides, it takes the masses minds off things that really matter; we'll probably have similar 5hit every year in perpetuity.
Still waiting for the Facebook Group to change its name to ‘Minority shareholder with no Board seat Out!’
Well I’ll be making no apology for my plans this weekend. I’ll be attending the beacon lighting in the village, to be with my family and see people in our community I’ve seen very little of in the past couple of years. I’ve never attended such an event before and probably never will again. I’ll raise a glass to the Queen to say thank you for the long weekend, and to congratulate her on a life of dedication and duty. I’ll not be going overboard with anything else, but I will be using the time for a sneaky night away and to spend time with my nearest and dearest. Enjoy the weekend folks.
I got the fk out of the country. Currently at a water park in Riccione. Ironically it’s Republic Day here today, celebrating the abolition of their monarchy.
yeah. And then shall we all don yellow hi vis vests and spend the weekends protesting how badly the country is run by a President who thinks he's a modern incarnation of Napoleon and less in touch with the common people than our Queen? We can also name a garden in our capital after a remaining foreign royal cos we admire what they have but can't quite bring ourselves to admit it
I was prepared to look at having a monarchy from both sides of the argument when I was younger. However I have a settled view as I've got older. If you look at the UK on a World map as I do, you catch yourself wondering how such a small country has had such a massive impact on the World, not just over the Centuries but also post war and more recently. We exert significant military, scientific, economic, legal and "soft" power well out of proportion to our size. Leaving Blair's disastrous foreign interventionist wars aside*, we mostly achieve some good with this. There is some kind of X Factor at play in our country. If that is down to the Royal family/our constitution or just our traditions, its not worth meddling with *I compare his sycophantic attitude to the USA to Wilson who refused to get involved in Vietnam and extolled the US to stop it and Macmillan who counseled JFK in the Cuban crisis.
You could always go on Facebook and form that group yourself. We would then be only a couple of steps away from the People's Front of Judea. Splitter!
Im watching the parade on the BBC with my family and I couldnt be more proud. Stunning ceremony for a fantastic woman for our great country.
I was always anti royal , but as I’ve got older I’ve mellowed. You realise many countries are envious of our history and pageantry and millions of people get a lot of pleasure from it. It just needs properly structuring chop the active numbers down to bare minimum , get the close and distant relatives and hangers on off the payroll. Then get some commercial specialists in and make it more or less self funding .
