The authorities will be desperate to play any games to get sky money. That’s why they haven’t chalked it off already. Pure and simply they won’t care a flying f**k about results, league tables or the fans. As usual.
It's football. A game. In 50 years time people will still be talking about Covid 19 and what it did to us. Nobody, but nobody, will give a stuff who if anybody won the football league. Cancel the season now, its over, theres no going back. After June players will move on, some teams will be stronger some weaker. All will be different in some way. If you start again it won't be a continuation it'll be a new 10 game mini season to bolt onto the remnants of what went before. It'll be as artificial as any of the other proposed solutions. Scrap it now, forget legal issues - force majeure, tough **** - and start afresh when safe to do so.
I've a feeling there will be a gap in the record books longer than just this season. It will say 'No Competition' similar to how it does for the war periods 1915-19 and 1939-46.
Looks very much as though pressure is mounting with thirty clubs now supporting the suggestion of scrapping promotion and relegation and starting the leagues afresh, when it is safe to do so. Premier League, EFL & PFA say 'difficult decisions' to come for clubs https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52070969
Or perhaps just realise that football is only a game and that there are more important things in life.
I don't understand why that means that the league shouldn't start again when this passes? There's more important things than KFC but KFC have temporarily closed, there isn't a huge campaign to knock them all down because there's more important things than chicken. Its perfectly possible to be concerned for people's welfare, hope everyone gets through this ok and to then organise the continuation of the league
This. Scrap the season and kick any team that resorts to legal action out of the league. People are ****ing dying. Who gives a toss about football?
Many of the teams can't afford to keep players without additional income. Sooner or later - and in many cases sooner - the clubs will start to fold. Trying to extend the league or playing behind closed doors could well push many over the edge.
i think you've read that wrongly. 30 clubs are challenging the decision to have no promotion/relegation in steps 3 to 7 of the pyramid.
I can see the Premier League seriously considering it, as it's common knowledge that many can break even at the very least without a single spectator paying at the turnstyles and the loss of the Sky/BT money will hit them hard financially. Outside the Premier, where gate receipts, food and drink sales and merchandise sales are the aim of the game, it wouldn't be worth it to the clubs unless Sky pay them more to screen every game live(which may be ok for the Championship, but the logistics of screening EVERY game live and as it happens must be mind boggling.
I saw this as well and that would do us fine. It looks as though that argument is gaining ground, but you have to feel a bit for those in the automatic slots at this moment in time. I presume that Liverpool would still get the Premiership. Th stark choice is either to: a) play some/all remaining games behind closed doors (not acceptable to players and staff); b) freeze the season where it stands now, which would mean that we would get relegated (not really a fair way to resolve it, especially given the financial implications for relegated clubs, plus the fact that could still escape relegation; c) call the season 'null and void' and start again with the same teams in each division in August/September (if the Wuhan situation plays out world-wide, this could be workable; EFL and Premiership like it, because it gives them a legal loop-hole against claims from Sky, BT Sport etc against non-delivery of contract. C) looks the be gaining ground. Us and Stevenage would be delighted! Not so Leeds, Coventry, Swindon etc.
Just watched Football Focus. How do Leeds get a slot on there celebrating their Centenary.? Yes they've had success in the past, but so have many other Clubs. Incidentally, it was good to see Kieran Trippier being interviewed at Athletico. Even gave us a mention. Always enjoyed watching him in the famous Red of Barnsley. Top lad.
Can't see how football can resume while ever social distancing is in force. I suppose if we get to the point where the lockdown ends but mass gatherings are still prohibited then it would be a option at that stage.
Seen plenty of leeds fans on social media saying cancel the 20/21 season and finish the 19/20 season instead. I dont know what will happen harsh on liverpool, leeds, west brom,Coventry etc to scrap the season but it has to be finished by 30th of june and I cant see that happening.
