And Heckingbottom making the odd decision in starting him at Bristol when he'd only been with us two days and no pre season under his belt didn't give off the best first impressions.
Or that his first touch is awful, he rarely knows what to do when he has the ball and is a reactive player.
Sometimes you need a technician, sometimes you need a good old fashioned crowbar. I think he's an excellent crowbar.
You have to take into account the system we have been playing though. In a 4-4-2, we can't have one of the 2 bombing forward when we are playing with out and out wingers. We would be picked off on the break because we'd be emptying the midfield. Gardner and Williams have to play in a 4-4-2 but we do not have to play that system with the players we have. Gardner hasn't been fantastic but he holds his position and covers for the inexperience and at times indiscipline of Williams who occasionally chases the ball. It is as important what players do out of possession than in it (in fact more important). I think he will change it for tomorrow and Potts will play in a 3 alongside Gardner and Williams.
Potts gets a lot of crap but he does make things happen. Granted his passing lets him down from time to time but he’s like Marley Watkins not really great at anyone thing but annoying to play against at everything else.
