Enterprise Inns puts Kes pub on the market: Enterprise Inns has put a pub on the market that hosted filming for the iconic film, Kes. The Dards pub in Barnsley is on the market through Smiths of Barnsley, with offers in the region of £290,000 excluding VAT invited. A spokesman for Enterprise Inns said: “As part of the ongoing development of our business, we do from time to time identify a pub that may no longer have a long-term future in our estate. After careful consideration, the decision has been made to sell The Dards, with no restrictions on future use.”
In Cudworth. David Glover was/is the landlord there. He was in the film, he played Tibbut, lad who gets sent off and gives the 2s to Brian Glover. "He's just got back from Biafra!"
The landlord put in an offer but it didn't match the ridiculous valuation. Can anything be done to stop these practices of these pub co's who seem intent to run places into the ground so that they can sell them to the supermarkets or for housing?
You need to contact your MP and the local CAMRA branch. Unfortunately nothing can be done immediately, although the pub co's (although in defence of who I work for, I wouldn't class Enterprise a pub co) will claim that hundreds of other pubs run at a profit with the same rules in place. Be interesting to know how much the put takes a week. To be fair, I've no idea where in Barnsley it is.
It's in Cudworth, been in there more times than I could count but had no idea it was the pub from Kes! It'll be a sad day if that shuts.
To be fair Loko - your pub co runs pubs, you have a commitment to them.Enterprise should be classed as a property company first and foremost.
Agreed. That's what I was getting at, you just worded it much better than I could muster up at the time!
