For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Just asking. For a friend like.
Really? Ever heard of asset stripping? ‘The activity in which a company buys an unsuccessful company cheaply and sells its assets separately for a profit.’ Is that your definition of success?
In order for asset stripping to work, the assets have to be worth more than could be made from the ongoing business. the sole assets of Barnsley FC are football players, a business model of selling them off is hardly likely to make a profit. The only way they can make a profit out of Barnsley is to increase the value of the players. The only way that’s possible is on field success.
Didn’t we have success on the field last season? But that success was deemed by the board not to increase the value of the players. So, what kind of success are we looking for?
I’m fairly sure you’re actually bright enough to work out exactly what ‘success’ meant in a season without increased ticket sales and with a depressed transfer market. That doesn’t alter the fact that in a ‘normal’ world success on the field is linked to financial success. Who would you rather own a 10% stake in: Man U or Macclesfield?
that’s heart not head though; I’d instantly sell shares in ManUre but leave my money in Mac. Did you watch the doc last night? Fantastic story.
Not according to our CEO and board we had our most successful season for decades and yet because they didn't manage to sell a player on the back of it it was a failure in their eyes ( they seem to disregard the sale of Chaplin and money received for the coach) The board don't see on field success as the route to profit.
That’s not the truth is it, it’s a common misreading of a not particularly thought out sentence. If the massed intellect of the BBS can work out that relegation will massively reduce our worth, I’m fairly sure that our owners can work it out too
