Agree with all the above posts. I also think Radlinger was better with his kicking, which is an area that Walton needs to work on for the season ahead.
I actually thought Martin Taylor was the worst - also dont forget a very young and inexperienced Vito Mannone cost us a point or 2 as well
I think the only time i saw him was a testimonial at DRFC when Gascoigne and Deane were in the donny side. But never saw him when he was with us. Who was the main keeper in 79 and 82? (first games I attended)
God, I had forgotten about Mannone! He was a rabbit in the headlights. Didn't he just throw or kick the ball straight to a Luton player in the last minute?
His positional sense is awful. He has decent reactions but at his age was never going to be able to improve positionally.
That's the one! And I think there was also something against MK Dons in a League Cup tie very soon after. I thought he was shocking, and I still can't believe he made a career out of it!
From 1979 to 1982, our goalkeepers were Peter Springett, Gary Copley, Gary Pierce, Martin New & Bobby Horn.
Actually.... Mannone.... i'll give you that. The mindbleach had been working til you mentioned it again!
I definitely don't remember that.... i was only ickle though in 1979 when we drew with Gillingham. And i think 1982 was against Boro when they ransacked the town pubs and I was escorted away. First regular keeper I remember was Clive Baker.
Stupidly I thought I would have a look at how bad Martin Taylor was for us...... https://www.soccerbase.com/players/player.sd?player_id=7827&season_id=132 3 games, we lost all 3, he let in 2 goals in each one. The following season he only played 3 games in non league for Telford where he lost all 3, let in 7 and again didn't keep a clean sheet. The season after his final 5 games of his career were for Burton in non league where he helped them to 1 point from 15 and let in a dozen goals, managing to incredibly keep a clean sheet but let in 3 in all the other 4. So the last 11 games of the last three seasons of his career reads..... P: 11 W: 0 D: 1 L: 10 F: 8 A: 25 GD: -17 PTS: 1
Our goalkeeper against Gillingham would've been Gary Pierce. The problems with Middlesbrough were 1983 and I believe the 'keeper would've been Bobby Horn, or possibly Andy Rhodes. Clive Baker was signed on a free transfer from Norwich City during the close season of 1984.
Never heard of the first two, sorry. And I'm not having Radlinger as better than Townsend. No, no and thrice no. Townsend was bad but Radlinger was shockingly bad
