I trust I am not repeating what many others have already posted, but 'Tekkytyke' like many others and nearly all Americans does not appreciate the difference between Socialism and Communism. Capitalism can flourish within a Socialist system, providing it does not accrue its wealth through exploitation. Lever Brothers, Titus Salt and the Sainsbury, Cadbury, fox, Rowntree families were/are examples of capitalists who were also Socialists. Denmark whose government of a coalition and has been for a long time is the best example in the world of consensual politics. The coalition is made up of Social Democrats, liberals, Socialists, 'left of centre' Conservatives and Greens. They have the most grown up attitude to politics than anywhere else, which is why they have the highest minimum wage, one of the top standards of living, low crime and voted the world's happiest and contented inhabitants. It may not be 100% Socialism but it's damn near and it's got it right.

No gambling or drinking, and must attend church. Pretty standard Methodist fayre for the time, and a fair trade-off given he’d provided jobs, homes, welfare and escape from poverty and the cholera epidemic.

‘There are a number of ‘dyed in the wool’ socialists on here who bemoan the state of the world who have never done anything, have no intention of doing anything and never will in order to improve their lot. Typically, they regularly moan about ‘rights’ but, not surprisingly, rarely, if ever, mention ‘responsibility’. It is as if they believe the World owes them something.‘
I’m guessing you know **** all about most if not all the people who post on here

And companies like that get away with treating employees like **** because a) they arent the actual employer and b) he knows that if they complain too loudly they can be ****** off and replaced with no effort.

Probably the most condescending, judgemental and ill informed post I’ve ever seen on this forum.

And that says a hell of a lot.

Very strict rules at work, quite draconian but definitely of its time. No one escaped the cholera epidemics until it was realised it was not an airborne disease. Edwin Chadwick oversaw the construction of the new sewer system which addressed this issue. Screenshot_20190613-165901.png

Suggest you read. The Ragged trousered philanthropist, or Dennis Skinner's Sailing close to the wind. Sitting round doing nothing gior.We elect people like Dennis Skinner to try to improve the standards of the lower classes so to speak. One of the great politicians of our time. Doesn't cow tow to the ruling classes. A magnificent servant to his electorate. Left wing to boot and Gets in with massive majorities. He doesn't scare em off. Even as much as the right wing press attempt to discredit him.( I don't agree with him on brexit, but fully understand his views as a Eurosceptic he voted against joining the European Union before putting it to the public in 1975, my view is the rights of workers are protected from europe. If Bo Jo or Farage have their way God help us) myself, I am a shop steward, in it to try to protect the rights of the members. I also am fully aware of my responsibility to the company and in general, it works.

When tackling a subject head-on, it helps if you have, at the very least, a basic understanding of it.

You live in the society you're in. Doesn't mean you cant try to make it fairer. Unfortunately for the press Corbyn lives a relatively simple life so they cant accuse him of champagne socialism!

    Sad.
Thought Obama had made plans to rectify this injustice but appears not (apparently america is not the only country in the world) Cuba does however trade openly with many western nations, including Canada.
You need to grow up comrade.

Having read the thread Most posters have missed the whole point of the OP in as much as they focussed on Socialism Capiitalism and Communism.political systems which was not my intention. It was a rant about people -admirably demonstrated by some on here - who virtue signal but do not actually achieve anything and worse still, pillory those capitalists and rich people who DO contribute to the economy. Fairness is not about Capitalism vs Socialism but ensuring that the rewards of a strong economy are fairly distributed. I agree that in the current unregulated Capitalism Global economy we currently have that does not happen

Someone even used roads as one of the benefits of Socialism !! Err..... Romans developed the roads in Rome and the provinces (including Britannia) - e.g. what is now the A1) not for altrusitic Socialist reasons but to enable soldiers and equipment to be moved quickly to where they were needed. Whilst the army engineers and soldier themselves did most of the construction but slave lavour was also used. Two thousand years later Htler (also using slave labour) built the Autobahns, again for military purposed. Governments don't build the roads. It takes poivate enterprise and capital to finance and build infrastructure. Without that nothing happens.
Almost everything we have today comes from the capitalist system as it provides the incentive for risk takers to invest in ideas. The slogan 'From each according to his ability....' flies in the face of who we are and human nature, whether we like it or not.

My post was NOT about a 'choice' between Socialism or Capitalism - athough you need a strong economy before you can provide all the benefits of a Welfare State.Without a strong economy -paid employment and taxation the NHS cannot exist. Fairness is not a ch
As for some of the individual reponses and naming names...DusThaNolll (who insists on repeating the misconception that I am a 'sad lonely old man', RedStar (enough said) - as well as numerous responders who resort to personal abuse rather than reasoned rebuttals is sad. Oh! and tykeste -FYIr I am not a snob but am educated. One poster stated I insulted and derided all the posters on here without knowing them and yet some responders have done exactly the same. I do criticise the political views of a handful of regular posters on here as some do of me. That is perfectly fine. Some of the invective on here though indicates a serious lack of intelligence of one or two.

    It just does not exist!

You say you are educated - degree perchance? from a university that did not levy fees? With the help of grants that are no longer available? - compassion my a**e

And as we are now on the 2nd anniversary of the tragedy Grenfell I would say that compassionate capitalism is about as scarce as rocking horse manure

The histories of both main political parties show exactly where the compassion is in the UK ... and it certainly is not in the blue corner. Prove me wrong (if you can/dare)
