Recent reports that they have agreed a 9 point deduction presumably for breaching ffp. How the hell then, can they afford to sign Andy Carroll (reported by talksport)??

Breaching FFP doesn't mean that the club is skint (probably the opposite). I think they're under an embargo that means they can only bring in loans or free agents, and can 'only' pay up to 8.5k/week

Wow. If they can post losses of what, almost 40 million over 3 years and not be skint, where do they get money from as they are not much bigger than us, gate wise.

They get their money from the same place as most of the Championship clubs. Their owners keep tipping money in.

The clue ought to be in the question!

FFP is about running at a loss, it’s not about spending what you’ve got coming in.

We’re amongst a small number of clubs who are just about running at a profit, I know it’s difficult to believe when you see the repeated bleating on here about our financial mismanagement, but I’d rather this than be owned by someone who subsidises us and could end up too skint to carry on.

In the final full year of Patricks tenure, we booked a profit of £12.8m.

In year to May 2018 we lost £178k
In year to May 2019 we lost £3.44m
In year to May 2020 we lost £280k (after the £750k payment to themselves)

So in 3 years to date, with 2021 expecting a loss given the pandemic and some other factors, they've netted losses of just under £4m while benefitting themselves to the tune of at least £750k, and maybe a few quid in directors fees that we aren't able to see in the accounts.

But that would paint a very different picture of the current owners, had John Stones made his move to Man City a year later I guess?

I'm guessing a fair chunk of that 12.8m profit was the Stones sell on. Along with sales of Mawson, Hourihane, Winnall and Bree.

    That’s why I wrote ‘just about’. :)

We ran at a significant loss on relegation to give us a good crack at promotion (which worked).

It did and it didn't. The losses weren't offset the following season after promotion.

The new owners benefitted from the cash and future debtors generated from those deals. So we're fully able to judge what they've done with all the cash generated through that period and the net position now compared to at the time of their "purchase" of the club.
