Lucky bugger. He was an embarrassment. Which, personally, is saying something because for a few seasons now Ive been going to every match expecting the game to be ruined, in some way, by the ref.
The authorities should be embarrassed by the general standards of their officials. We're all biased as fans but you're right that seeing a game not ruined in some way by the officials is the exception to the rule. They get so many decisions wrong or show so much inconsistency during the course of one game it's unbelievable.
Davies is a regular time waster. Can't have any complaints about the booking. As all the players were positioning for the goal kick he'd totally ignored the ball and was 20 yards from goal talking to one of our defenders. That said the ref was rubbish.
That’s the thing about him being captain though. I know he time wastes anyway but he had a chat with McGeehan rather than take a goal kick as Cameron looked like he needed that chat. Not sure what Davies is meant to do in that situation as a goalie captain. He can’t run up and talk to him and leave the net empty during play but then he has a job to be doing when there’s a goal kick to be taken.
Their player wins the ball at head height with his boot in the first half, play on. Twice in the second half our players win the ball with their boot at chest height, no foul and I think one was a yellow. No consistency at all.
Thought their number 15 was one of the worst professional footballers I've seen in terms of skilful contributions with ball, even at this level, so he seemed to be in their team as he was a complete master of conning free kicks and bookings, and held the merry whistle-blower in his pocket for the full 90 minutess, undoubtedly assisted by the fact that the ref was his older brother...…….. .
This is exactly what I was getting at in the thread I started yesterday about the standard of officiating. The example you're referring to was Stefan Payne in the first half who had his boot at head height and nothing was given and in the 2nd half 2 free kicks given against us for the same thing!! Also the amount of opposition players that have stopped us taking quick free kicks at Oakwell this season and not so much as a word and then Mowatt booked straight away (rightly so btw). I believe Gauthier should raise this issue with the EFL, all were asking for as fans is some consistency in the decision making and applying the rules correctly!
Think the incident with Payne was in a situation where they broke away and could have scored too....and his foot as you say was at head height...found that increadable there was no free kick or booking.
Rightly so?? The ball was moving when he kicked it, had no chance of even trying to be 10 yards away.
