I think that was the season I thought our name had been changed to Barnsley Nill I think it was the last season I only went to games occasionally with my dad. The following season - in the 4th division I was pretty much a regular standing at the front in the Old Brewery Stand - just happy to be there 1975 was a good time to be a fan though - now no matter how bad it gets I can always say I saw a worse side than the one we are now watching
Controversial, bearing in mind he took us to within an inspired Richard Wright of getting back into the Premier League, and then left shortly after that. I was led to believe that when Hignett and Eaden asked for improved deals, John Dennis refused, thinking nobody else would come in for them and offer them better.
I cant quite bring myself to agree - I still think Spackman was even worse completely wrecking a team that was competing at the top of the 2nd Division and pushing us off the cliff edge. But I was quite young in the McSweeney days and hadnt really got much to compare with. I know Jim Iley was a lot better so McSweeney clearly wasnt very good
youngster alert. I cant quite match Kev's 50 but I first went 47 years ago - and typing that makes me realise how old I am getting
D'oh repeat after me John McSeveney....John McSeveney x100 Actually I dont really remember him very well - thats my excuse
