we must have the worst shots to shots on target ratio in the league - the number of shots we have that sail over the bar or past the post is getting quite annoying now. - Fortunately for us this time Plymouth were just as bad
Actually over the course of this season 40% of our shots have been on target. We had 19 this evening, but only 6 on target. They had just 1 on target, and guess what?
Hang on. They definitely had two on target Davies made an outstanding save before they scored - one on one spread himself Schmeichel style.
Oops, yes he did, a 1 on 1, good save. I must have got my figures from the daily male. In fact I got them from the BBC report. Fake news.
I can’t believe, how many we hit leaning back ( predominantly Moore) or scuffed, or what the fk did he shoot from there ( predominantly Thiam)
19 shots, only a third on target and one goal.... https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/45635004 Do we practice shooting? Moore missed a couple of sitters.
Our crosses are just as bad. We waste (Cavare in particular) so many opportunities in the final third. The pre match shooting warm up we do they’re all sticking them in the back of the net but come to the game and we’re incredibly erratic. I guess that’s why they’re third division players.
Hate that, how many ‘crosses’ do we just lob into the box, hard to get any power on and making the keeper the favourite. Looking up and picking a man is virtually non existent
Its not the shooting necessarily, its composure and decision making that needs all the work. They've got the technique and some of the control of the ball from difficult passes is really good generally. But we take the wrong option, make a poor final pass or snatch at a shot. And why we're intent on shooting from 30 yards out so much, I really don't know. I thought some of Plymouths movement was a joy and they caused us all sorts of problems. If they could finish, they'd be top half easily.
Most of the time the poor shots came from hurried half-chances. Plymouth put some good blocks in too. I just thought we wanted to play the early ball into the box from deep, rather than run to the by-line, get behind the defence and get crosses in. Cavare' in particular had the pace and beating of their left back but would stop, run inside or play it in field where there were too many Plymouth bodies and they outmuscled us. In the first 10 minutes when he was going down the outside and crossing it in, it looked like we would get a bagful. Then we stopped using the wings and played in the centre of the park, where I think Plymouth had 5 in midfield to our 4. We started using the wings again after half time and were back in the ascendancy to some extent, with the exception of us not wanting to get round the back for some reason. Plymouth turned it into a bit of a physical fight rather than a football match at times, but fair enough in their position. I don't imagine for an instance they'll go down, if they can produce that kind of performance with 7 regulars missing.
The one thiam flicked on? I agree all he had to do was keep it down. Vic should of finished the blocked shot 1st half too.
