RE: The pub trade will never recover, if you don't like....... The cloned soulless chain food pubs will continue to thrive, the local pubs will continue to suffer which is bloody sad. It's not all down to the smoking ban, other factors like rising beer costs and the cheap supermarket booze also have contributed. Have a drive round and look at all the pubs that have closed, i heard about 1 a week was having to close in Barnsley.
RE: The pub trade will never recover, if you don't like....... gerrartside wi thi. Bloody smokers union. anyway, it'll mek the boozers start thinking of other stuff to do besides footy on TV and endless rounds of quiz nights. Worrabart a subbuteo night, or mabs or dobby. Be good that, running abart outside chasing each other. Probably kill off a few smokers too.
RE: I think that people are missing one very important point Spot on, initial impact on the trade was not as bad as had been forecast - and it had been forecast as a £0.1bn fall (that's £32.2bn to £32.1bn). Pub closures were happening before the ban.
No sorry pal, it's the smoking ban......................... you can try and cover for the do gooder's but it won't wash, pub's and clubs the length and breadth of this country would rather the smokers were back and the non smokers fecked off home.
I think theres a place for it. I don't smoke and used to hate coming home stinking of smoke but the whole point of these small boozers is for the locals to get away from home for a couple of hours and have a pint and a *** and a game of pool etc. There even used to be smoking lounges. There has to be a way of allowing it back for them that wants to.
RE: No sorry pal, it's the smoking ban......................... It's not about do-gooding, people aren't bothered whether other people choose to smoke, if anything it's more an issue of self-preservation.
Good and... ...I'm still a stupid smoker. I think the main reason a lot of 'back street' pubs are shutting is because of supermarkets selling booze at reduced prices.
RE: Good and... And rent prices. There was a pub back home that needed to be taking £2k a night to keep going - in a village.
And drinking alcohol is the way to a healthy, long....... life eh? my Grandad drank and smoked all his life and he lived right upto 27.
RE: And drinking alcohol is the way to a healthy, long....... No, but the fact is I choose to drink and accept the health risks, I don't choose to smoke.
i think they should allow designated smoking pubs but only allow so many in an area e.g. only 2 in the town centre

Very good. An unnamed pub I know lets people light up and after hours. The difference when the 1st one is lit up is shocking. As a good mates dad says. If he sees his son smoking in a bar he is in he jokes. He will come up to him and instead of going to the toilet just p*ss on him instead, says if he has to put up with whoever’s s**t then they can put up with his. Very good point. All the pubs I go in are still as busy and some probably make more as they get more business people in for meals through the day. Some of the dirty pubs might suffer but overall I doubt there’s much difference in who goes where but everywhere seems much cleaner now.
its good as my clothes no longer stink and need washing every time I wear them! Beer at end of the day doesn't smell as bad
