Not sure how that stacks up. Every single club has faced the same issues due to the pandemic. Why would Wigan, with their relatively small matchday revenue, be a special case??
If the force majeure (unforeseen/uncontrollable circumstance) factor which affords Wigan the right to appeal is covid-19, then the fact that all other clubs are also affected by covid -19 ought not to be fatal to such appeal. However given that Wigan have changed owners since the pandemic started seems to me to stick a fatal pin in their balloon. Because covid-19 is then no longer is an unforeseen/uncontrollable circumstance. They already knew about it.
I'm sick of hearing their sob story. Where was their own due diligence when selling the club. They should stop passing the buck. There was only going to one outcome when wages are 168% of turnover. Owners not doing the right thing are par for the course anyway in admin.
That's my biggest frustration. They've got a big shot QC and played the system to their advantage. Then they got to spend a whole day talking about the impact on Wigan, when in reality, any decision against the EFL in this case will move Barnsley from 21st to 22nd in the table. That would involve a restructure of the league, which I imagine would required a members' vote. Which isn't going to happen.
They seem to think that they're out of the mire if they win their appeal. Point is they're still in admin without a buyer as yet. They could be another Bury even if they win their appeal. The club is unsustainable at their current level of outgoings so unless there's another sugar daddy out there I'd be more worried about having a club to support if I was a Wigan fan.
Clubs are cowards, only interested in themselves and money. Charlton should have lodged an appeal and started legal proceedings. No other clubs will support them. Wigan lodged an appeal. No clubs support them and if its overturned no one will support us. Will our owners start legal proceedings, will we refuse to accept the situation? I hope we don't get to find out. See my earlier thread where Birmingham were given a reprimand despite having been the second misdemeanour in The past couple of seasons. I was losing passion for watching our plight but i actually think im losing belief in the British game in general.
That's why I posted the other night "I've done" after a few jars. I'm so disillusioned with it all. I seriously think if we're relegated through a gross injustice it'll be just Horse Racing and cricket for me.
if only there was a consequence to trying to cheat their way out of the deduction - like have another 12 points deducted next season if you are found to be at fault. They may not have tried their luck then. This is an almost free roll of the dice.
