It’s a difficult one this because it goes back 13 or 14 years - and because of the policy of loan players there is hundreds of players to choose from And there’s some big names in there such as: Trippier Stones Muller Drinkwater
Nope. We know that. I’m not asking about his favoured 11 while he was in charge - I’m asking what your favourite 11 would be under his ownership. I’m asking because it’s a difficult one to call as there has been so many good players through the club in the last 13 or 14 years. I got this idea after watching the WBA v Leeds match yesterday. Commentators were talking about Barnes and his loan spell at Barnsley. There arnt that many Championship / League 1 games on the tele that Barnsley doesn’t get a mention. That’s because we have had so many good players through the club.
Muller Bobby Stones Mawson Williams (the play off one) Disco Howard Conor AH Vaz Te Istavan. Not saying it’s the best or particularly balanced but probably my favourite players of the last 10 years.
There would be two different Cryne 11s because the 11 that's been best on the pitch for us isn't the best overall. For example based on ability Stones would be in. But based on how few games he played for us would he be in that line up?
Well he would be in my team. Same also applies to other players like Trippier - who would have thought he would have gone on to play for England.
Yer right. Was identified - and Barnsley tried to sign him. But it was after new ownership took over.
If we're going on what they've achieved since leaving Barnsley. This isn't a bad side. Butland Trippier Mawson Stones White Da Silva Howard Drinkwater Hammill Vaz Te Winnall
It’s not players that just played well for us - it’s players chosen that played well at their peak. Muller Holgate - Stones - Shackel - Trippier Hammill - Howard - Hourihane - Disco Chopra - Wood Betsy and Gore on the bench
I think what this thread indicates is this - bringing young loan players in is a good policy to have - if: 1) The parent club will agree a purchase price before the loan takes place. 2) Barnsley are willing and able to meet that price tag. Not many teams in the Championship has seen the number of talented young players through the door as what Barnsley has seen. Unfortunately Patrick didn’t have the funds available to buy them. Just a few that, if we had bought them at that time, would have made £££millions at a later date: Pearson Williams Drinkwater Barnes I’m sure there’s a lot more that we missed.
Agreeing a purchase price... like Morsy you mean? You buy players or you don't. If you loan them, you put them in a bigger shop window. At present, our appeal is minimal. Barnsley is not a great place. The club is in the 3rd tier. We've openly stated its business as usual in terms of spend and budgets. In a year, 2, 3, maybe never, the owners views may change. But nobody yet knows the full reasons behind the acquisition. It may be fantastic, it may become apparent in time that there are other factors beyond football success. Everything til its either confirmed through actions or statements is pure conjecture and assumption.
