They are completely separate issues, I was as disgusted as anybody by the disgusting behaviour of the bankers and the MPs (on both sides) who abuse their position but that has absolutely nothing to do with the welfare state. Quite rightly some of them, not enough IMO, have spent some time at Her Majesty’s pleasure. With any luck there will be another spending some time in a cell very soon.

    Re: Done

Thank you to those of you with compassion ... I suppose it takes a certain type of person to attack and persicute the most vulnerable in society.......... Disability and illness can affect any of us. We are supposed to be a caring society.... yet we are allowing a government to traumatise the most vulnerable amongst us...I am speaking from first hand experience of this.. its almost like the strike re visited. only worse.. lies perpetrated by a government determined to smash a group of people who arnt welcome in their club.. it has been reported that over a thousand people have commited suicide as a direct consequence of this governments actions..attacking the most vulnerable in our society.. those amongst you who are Torys.... even you must see whats happening here.. hhttps://twitter.com/stuckinscared/status/395542463084892160/photo/1

Signed - Really sorry about your brother

I think the silly cow that thinks Disabled bays arent needed because didabled people cant get out anyway is a bit of a red herring though - she happens to be a Tory but could just as easlily have been from some other party - they all have them

I do have a big problem with the current approach though - my impression is that the policy is that the Government focussing on ensuring that no one who shouldnt get DLA gets it - and if that means many people who should get it dont because all the benefits of any doubts always go against them thats tough

Instead of a policy to ensure that everyone who should gets it does and if that means a few frauds get through as well we just have to accept that.

The fact that the assesment is a tick box approach that requires no medical understanding from the assessor is just stupid though - I cant be bothered to list all the reasons why is dumb as there are too many

It always puzzles me when people think victimising disabled people will help control the benefits bill. The vast majority of benefits for working age people are paid to able bodied people in employment. The benefits bill spiralled following the selling of council housing and it's non replacement. Secondly working tax credit props up employers often in massive companies who do not pay a living wage. If you want to genuinely tackle the benefits bill. Build social housing, cap private rents and raise the level of the minimum wage.

Personally I don't think it's just about the finances. For me, it's about the humiliating, degrading and demoralising way in which genuinely disabled and ill people are treated during the so-called "tests" to see if they can work. People with no medical skills are making decisions about ill people which affect their lives and those of their families for ever. It's a disgrace that the current system is actually worsening many sufferers' condition.

Re: heres a suggestion for your Bro matey.

Dragon, not sure how it could have been a Labour Gov, the It was Tories from 1979 to 1996, then Labour.

Your dad died in '95, he didn't retire until '93.

    Dates don't work.
