Bet charlton wish they hadn't sold their top scorer in January they could have got promoted to the championship.... oh wait.
Imo I think that whoever was in charge of recruitment probably CO st the time wanted to see how they performed in a higher division before committing to a longer contract . I suppose it was a gamble as we have had situations where players were either not good enough or not giving 100% and we couldn’t get rid Sometimes it works others it doesn’t but by time we were sure agents had turned their heads imo and were in a position to demand more Money than we could offer
From memory we scored a lot of goals compared to other teams in the league, but we also had A LOT more chances. As you say, that's brilliant - no problem at all with it. I do have a niggling worry that if anything's going to dry up in the league above it'll be those chances though, and that our lack of relative incision might be our downfall. Having 20+ shots during a game and scoring 2 of them is wonderful until a better defence comes along and restricts you to 5! Having said that, a huge number of our chances whenever I watched us play were from outside the box, so you'd expect a much lower conversion rate. Might be nothing to worry about.
Even in the Bizarre Parallel universe Nudger inhabits this is quality. My memory is obviously gash as I dont recall much of a great atmosphere at Oakwell the season we went down. As from the nothing in the box fantasy he has he needs to go to specsavers All of Woodrows goals came from inside the box and most of Moores did - we had a few shots from outside the box went in but no more than when say Conor was banging them in If the type of football we are playing under Stendell isnt entertaining enough maybe we need to try and get Simon Davey or Mark Robbins or even Keith Hill they really knew how to pile forwards and swamp the opposition box, said no one ever
Confirmed in today's Chronicle " Barnsley FC spokesperson says there has been no approach to speak to head coach Daniel Stendel as they look to replace departing players ahead of the 2019/20 season. They remain hopeful that he will sit down and discuss an extension to his current deal which expires next summer." It says that the Club are determined to hang on to him. Also says we will embark on a week long training camp in Europe in July and will play one or two " behind closed door friendly matches."
It's top Nudgering, - or is it Nudgerism? Seriously though, the whole atmosphere thing is blown out of proportion, and is a bit of a rose tinted comparison of then and now. Exaggerating how good it used to be and playing down the here and now seems to be the norm.
