If any body thinks we will pay for a quality keeper you must be crackers and off your bloody head. Davies first to go, who's next. I said this from January and got slated. Get real people we are an academy, we make players dont buy them....Christ....
We have the money....give him an offer to match that at stoke and a promise of where the fans wants us to be... its not going to happen mate.
The abuse the lad came in for when he suffered a loss of form and was dropped was unbelievable. If a keeper drops a clanger , as the last means of defence it's usually magnified by the sporting press and fans alike. Personally I wouldn't like to hear thousands of people shouting out that I was crap and such an experience would not be beneficial in restoring any confidence. This season especially, the lad has played very well and has saved a lot of efforts that perhaps in another year, he probably might have let get past him. If he does go to Stoke, good luck to him. He's been loyal to Barnsley and I hope the majority of our fans are grateful to him for that.
We're about to lose a player who has been signalling for some time that he was ready to move on. He's a free agent. He can go where he wants. There's no way on this earth we will offer the wages on offer at Stoke with their parachute payments and nor should we try or we'll finish up like Bolton.
But mex tyke asked what would I do. Dint say i was right did r. Just said we could have kept him here. Money talks
We don't have the money. The owners are wealthy people, that doesn't translate to the club having wealth. Not sure why people can't understand this. They're trying to increase the wealth of the club through sponsorships etc. but as of right now, the club is no more wealthy than when Patrick Cryne was owner. Stoke have parachute payments. They have more money. Secondly, Davies put talks on hold until the summer.
I doubt we can afford to compete with Stoke, given they’re in receipt of parachute payments. Even if we could, would you really want Davies to be the player that we break our wage structure for? I certainly wouldn’t, as much as I rate him.
People saying we never learn? Davies always said he was waiting untill the summer to see what offers he got looks like he will times his money by 3 or 4 and get a move closer to his home so it will have paid off nothing the club could do. Always gave 100% can't fault him if he goes.
I know...we could stick all our players on 20k a week to compete with Stoke etc then, if and when our owners up sticks, we can be totally and utterly f****d and dropping into oblivion like a stone.
It's a shame that money is the main driver for players these days otherwise I see a move to Stoke as a sideways move and possibly, given the unknowns of the setup, even a backwards step. Now we have been promoted to the Championship, Davies would be leaving a financially stable club with a great young manager, team spirit in bucket loads for mid table side. The only difference between Barnsley and Stoke really is the amount of money they have from the parachute payments and the subsequent wages they can offer. Their attendance figures are not that spectacular. I'm not sure that once the parachute money runs out they may be any better placed than we are. So 2 messages to Davies... "If it ain't broke dont fix it!" and "the grass often isn't any greener on the other side".
The thing is that by the time any financial chickens come home to roost at Stoke he will have earned two or three years wages there at double what he's going to get here. He'd be a fool to stay where he is. This is the best time to ensure his future financially. At the end of the day, unless you're a multi millionaire money iS the key factor.
