Just let people post what they want and let it go as a new post.. Its far more easier to read and more appealing than looking at a thread and thinking what page am I upto. Just let the site be natural... Stop meddling when it's not needed... Just because I might see two posts about the same thing doesn't matter..
It really isn't. Only takes 2 secs to look at what other threads exist before posting. Seems to be too difficult for some though Occasionally it may not be obvious but 9 times of 10 it is and it is annoying.
Agreed, it’s making me visit less and less. I open the page, see that there’s no new threads and close it again. If it’s been a while and a thread I was reading has gone from 4 pages to 11 pages then I can’t be bothered going back into it and catching up on the 7 pages of tangents and whatnot. It’s a shame, because it didn’t used to be like this but it seems like one or two people are determined to keep doing it because that’s what they prefer, whether others like it or not.
Agreed, if there's a new transfer rumour I'd like to see it in a title rather than go to the end of an enormous thread and then work backwards to see where a rumour started. If that get duplicated one of them tends to get less replies & so soon disappears.
I don’t really have a preference either way, although I think match day threads are a good idea. I do find it funny when Nudger and Dragon Tyke get pissed off about it, so for that reason I think threads should continue to be merged
Agree, happened to me the other day, put me off coming back. Why not merge match day threads they are all related. The answer is they are subtly different in context. If I want my own thread I’ll make one, if I want to join one I’ll do that. Live and let live.
Can you imagine being in the pub and you bring up a subject with your mate that someone else in there is talking about and the management makes you take your drinks over and sit with the other group? You could have signs up in each corner telling you what the topic of conversation has to be in each area.
To be fair, it was really useful when Dragon Tyke, aka Breaking News Tyke, told us the Wigan decision was supposed to be at 4pm on Tuesday, about four days after the rest of the world knew this.
Haven’t merged anything for days but it’s hardly ruining the website. You’ve got 20 active threads today alone and it isn’t even midday. Not all threads are being merged. But if you’ve got 2/3 asking the exact same question then it makes complete sense to put them together where you’ll see lots of people answering it. If you don’t merge those, then you have less topics of discussion for people to choose to interact with. There’s some people complaining about merging threads, that would have their own threads be way down the page if it wasn’t the case. It’s what makes the BBS what it is - lots of different chat about different things. Most of the threads that are merged you don’t even realise have happened, which is evidence enough that it makes it a better experience.
I suspect there wouldn't be much merging if some posters (a) didn't use cryptic titles, (b) had a quick look to see if a thread already exists, and (c) weren't all racing to be first to break the news. I'm not a fan of duplicate posts, mainly because too many of them will shove interesting threads off the front page and into obscurity. I do accept, however, that it's possible to have different facets to the same item, so on balance a carte blanche merging approach can be detrimental to the overall flavour of the board. I'm in favour of matchday threads, though. I'm as excited as the next goat when we score, but I don't feel the need to post a "Get In!" thread. Just my opinion. Your mileage may vary.
Not really bothered either way personally but this thread suggests otherwise. People do know they're being merged and are complaining about it.
Not really bothered either way personally but this thread suggests otherwise. People do know they're being merged and are complaining about it.
No single thing really has 100% agreement. Whether that’s opinion of players, the board, politics being moved to a separate page, bans being given, reports being made, etc. I’m just giving a different view that most of the merged threads in the last three months won’t have been noticed, but they have made the board a more enjoyable experience because without it the different topics discussed won’t have happened. You can’t have one thread for Transfer Rumours though. It’s a subject with too many announcements and moving parts. But you can merge posts all within the same timeframe announcing the same rumour from the same post. Why wouldn’t you?
