Millwall are like us and watch what they spend.. Wasn't Bradshaw their record signing. They'll be hoping no one else will wants him, so get us over a barrel. Watford hopfully should scupper that.
We might need to try keep him if he’s willing to play, we will sell Connell to Swansea for a ten bob mix up so need another player to replace him
He was at the time, they've since broke that record 4 or 5 times. They've just paid a reported £2m for a striker from Hibs and paid about the same for a midfielder from a Dutch side last season.
Now more than ever, we need to make sure we don't waver on his value. We have no idea what the fallout from Duff is yet. Losing Luca would be a huge blow.
I like Styles but no longer sure where he fits, position wise. He was superb at LWB. Whether he liked playing there or not, it suited. It raised his stock. He looked out of place in centre mid, but there are caveats. He was coached there by 2x PE teachers who wouldn't recognise the English 2nd tier if it slapped them in the face (and it did!). So would Val or Duff have got more of a tune out of him there? I didn't see many highlights of him at Millwall, but he played there and did more than OK. So we have on our hands at the moment a 'new' player. He won't know many of our squad, he certainly won't know the imminent gaffer, so it is a clean slate. What's more, he is almost the perfect 'spreadsheet player' coming back to us. Young (resale value) and with not only many league games under his belt, but the vast majority of those in the second tier. Then there is the issue of whether he wants to be here, and I'm not sure whether a half-hearted effort at L1 will suit either him or us. And the point of people mentioning the nailed-on imminent Swansea bid for Connell ........... I have a sneaky feeling that the first offer will come in for Phillips. He was a much under-rated player. Sometimes he'd play four games on the bounce, barely noticed, yet we won those four games and he had five goals to his name in that run. I think Duff saw a lot in him, so a bid would not surprise me (and he would be a big miss).
The problem the club face, and no doubt Millwall know it, is that he will be on a much improved contract that means the cost of holding on to him are much higher. Improving the contract last year was a gamble that Styles would do well in the Championship and result in a clamour for his signature now. I suppose he's done ok but I doubt there are a stream of possible suitors which makes Millwall's bargaining position that bit stronger. With the club in need for further cash to see them through this year the transfer of Andrerson and Styles could take the pressure off the owners having to find more money to keep the club afloat. This is the reality the board are dealing with, for all the emotion of the fans it is not easy balancing the books and being competitive.
Totally agree. I think my only ask is that we do everything we can to stick to his release clause value. If someone comes in and meets the release clause, he goes. That's what is was put there for, and it was a smart move at the time.
