    We have booked return trains to Sunderland , but only to Newcastle on New Year’s Day . No metro running that day , is taxi only option ?

    Thought there would be local buses on or metro when I booked tickets , working out expensive day out now

    There's a local train that goes from Newcastle to Hartlepool via Sunderland. Not sure if that's running on NY Day but might be worth checking if you haven't already.

    Can’t find any trains going into Sunderland that day .must be engineering work going on at Sunderland

    We were looking at going but can only get as far as Newcastle.... I tried every route and it was a no go unless we wanted to pay daft prices for a taxi to and from Sunderland.

    Got cheap hotel and trains returning from Sunderland on 2 nd . Looking like a taxi ride

    Uber shows £18-£24 from Newcastle Station to Sunderland AFC. Duno if that price would be same New Year’s Day or availability of Uber’s back to Newcastle.

    There's a few options:

    National Express coach 537 (towards Birmingham), departs from Newcastle at 11.50, arrives at Sunderland Interchange at 12.20

    Then there's the Megabus M12 service. It actually departs from Meadowhall at 11.30, but you can pick it up at Middlesbrough at 13.40 if your train tickets are valid to there. It gets to Sunderland at 14.15.

    One of lads has hired a minibus so looks like we are going now.... £90 for a days hire between 8 of us from selby so not bad!
