This is from cricket and shows a sensible decision. Before anyone starts muttering South Africa and racists, the team has black players as well as white was and this decision was unanimous

"South Africa say their decision not to take a knee before matches in the upcoming series against England has been taken "unanimously" as a team.
The Proteas will wear black armbands as part of a period of national mourning for victims of gender-based violence and the coronavirus pandemic.
"Our decision does not indicate we do not care about racism, racial equality, or justice," said a statement."

All the more reason for the England team to do it, in my opinion.

It's a tiny fragment of the sporting event.

Because it shows that England, as a country, represented in this case by the England cricket team, take racism and equality seriously, and will continue to do so. Taking the knee is the way it is done in England, and hopefully the way it'll continue to be done.

It should be done until the message hits home. Every game. Football, cricket, other sports, and at other cultural events.

South Africa can show that they take racism and equality seriously by doing whatever they do. As a team, that's up to them. The gesture is unimportant, but doing something, whatever it is, is important.

It’s become tiresome though clubs are starting to move away from it now and I agree ! It was powerful when it first happened but it’s had its time its repetitive and just a habit now

Maybe clubs should find a new, fresh way to show support for racial equality then. What would you suggest?

You're not convincing me with your use of language. What do you suggest in its place?

A bit like racism, but add in a bit more malice. Not aiming anything at you, but as someone who is married to a black woman, racism in the UK is a much bigger issue than most people realise. I didn't even realise it until I witnessed my wife being the subject of it time, after time, after time.

It was powerful when it first happened - how? what changed? why are we still subject to racists in our everyday lives?

Let's just hope that the commentator doesn't wish Happy Birthday to anyone - that's far more important than taking the knee.

I'd rather see them all hold hands. I find taking the knee submissive and it makes me cringe.

Really? My kid kneels like that for their team talks before kick off. I think changing body position maybe has more of a visual impact.

What message does taking the knee make though? I get the movement but I don't see how taking a knee is the best way of showing this. Is it to do with unity or is it submission?

It’s nothing to do with submission.
