For making my daughter, Scarlett's, day by writing to her personally at her school as she told you that you were her hero. it has made her so proud, particularly as most of her classmates support Huddersfield and Wednesday or premiership teams. Gestures like this really do make fans of the future; she can't wait for Saturday now even though Adam won't be playing. I have to admit, I'm chuffed too!
I'd also like to thank him for making last year's 2 visits to Wembley truly wonderful days. Thanks mate.
I've taken my girlfriend's 10 year old niece to a few games over the last few years. She's really into football, and despite her dad claiming to support Leeds, she'd never been to a match. The first match I took her to was against Middlesbrough in the FA cup (the season before last if memory serves me right), and she wrote about it for her homework, discovering in the process that another boy in her class full of Leeds fans, was also a Barnsley fan. We bought her a shirt last season and I took her to the Play-off final. The team bus pulled into the side of the stadium and my girlfriend's niece and my mum both waved at the bus as it pulled in. Adam Hammill was at the front of the bus and waved back. Made her weekend. He's been her favourite player since. It's the little things like that, that are special. My brother still talks to this day about getting hit in the face by a wayward shot from Arjan De Zeeuw on the training ground. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
The usual suspects will be thinking of how this can be turned into a negative. Maybe "he should be concentrating on getting fit again as opposed to interacting with fans." I'm all seriousness though, great lad is Adam both on and off the pitch.
When my little lad was mascot Adam was easily the most approachable and absolutely brilliant with him and had loads of time for all the kids that day. Top man in my eyes. Sent from my iPhone using Barnsley FC BBS Fans Forum
I like him. He's human like most of us on here, with the same mix of strengths and frailties in his character. Treated my lad like Royalty when he was mascot a few years ago down at Reading, and met him again as a year 11 student at Holy Trinity school today - all to do with National Citizen Service via the BFC in the Community section. I think Angus and Scowen went to the junior classes today too. Club deserves great credit for this sort of stuff. They've done lots of this since Wilson came back and carried it on.
Same here. My kids were Mascots when was here in his first spell. He was only early 20s then. (2009) . Easily the friendliest player, who showed maturity and friendliness beyond his years. My youngest was very unsure about the whole thing and he made her feel at ease. Top bloke. He's obviously made mistakes in his life, but basically is a really nice lad who is a credit to the club.
Gestures like these make such a difference to young fans. My daughter is absolutely buzzing about it and can't wait to get to Oakwell. The letter is two sides of handwritten information about his passion for football and the Reds. He is a real ambassador for the club and has made her so happy.
"The usual suspects will be thinking of how this can be turned into a negative. Maybe "he should be concentrating on getting fit again as opposed to interacting with fans." Unless it was a joke like...
Of course it was a joke, Adam is great for us and long may it continue. I was jokingly trying to think of how all the negative people could turn this into a negative, I'll try harder next time!
Brilliant. I met Paul Futcher round by the old artificial pitches many moons ago, having a kickabout with his kids. He was so huge and serious that I'm still a bit scared now.
