People soon forget....i for one dont want to see a return to standing no matter what mantel you place on it. I like many others placed a wreath at Anfield as a mark of respect to those that lost their lives attending a football match. That could have been so easily anyone of us that day no matter which game you attended, in those days. Politics and blame put to one side, it was and would be a danger again if standing and terracing were to return in my opinion Those that never or havent stood in large crowds will never know what it feels like to be swept forward when those at the back surge forward, yes at times it was a thrill and you got carried away at times, yes literally in all sense of the word, however looking back it was as dangerous as hell. It only needed one or two to trip or miss the next step down and the potential was there for mass injuries how people were never seriously hurt week in week out was a mystery, lots would take some kind of knock or twisted ankle or get squashed against the rails. It was just left to chance. Like wars the loss of NHS services, the longer the time span, between now and then, the more the memories of hardship and the problems those before us had become diluted and carry no sense of worth to many, hence the situation becomes nostalgic and a magical air romances the memory of those bygone days. It doesnt however make it right or any less dangerous. Theres an old saying that goes ....to find the clarity one must first sample the essence, only then it may be too late to enjoy it Why return to a age of chance.
I stopped going to away terraced matches after a bad experience when we played at Roker Park. They eventually unlocked the fences to allow us to walk round the pitch to the side stand, but by that time several people including myself were feeling ill through being crushed.
People miss standing because you can create a great atmosphere and it's more fun. Anyone who went to Burton and Brentford can see that.
Re: Photo Even as a young un it was pretty scary at times. I fell over once and two lads grabbed my arms and pulled me like a cork out of a bottle then of course there was that alleyway at Millmoor, disaster waiting to happen.
Re: Photo Yes, a hooligan was stood on by a police horse when he bent down to pick something up to throw at Rotherham fans I think
Saturday was how football should be. Bring back standing at the earliest opportunity. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I was behind the goal with my back to the back wall, didn't seem too packed to me. Didn't see any sign of surging but unless you're in it you probably don't see it.
