Wasnt convinced about his team selection at Derby either. Still, all managers make the wrong decisions at times
Be very surprised if they have not taken salaries and expenses, but equally surprised if they have taken dividends.
Unless anyone has knowledge of the day to day running of the club no one knows what has happened to the finances post 31 May 2018. That was the period which the last set of audited accounts were filed. Under the new owners there had not been any distribution to directors. The next set of accounts to 31 May 2019 are due to be filed around the end of February.
There is nothing wrong with trying to play out from the back and implementing the coach's instructions but it has to be tempered with players having the latitude to use a bit of nous when necessary and just put the ball in the opponents half. Also as for last night, whilst a deal of the individual criticism is warranted there has been little acknowledgement of how well Preston played. Their game management was excellent. By doing the business in the first half and containing Barnsley in the second showed just how a team should implement the manager's game plan.
I wonder if they still do pressganging in those parts? The idea of being dragged away on a ship for a few years sounds much more appealing than dragging myself down to Oakwell week in, week out.
Agree, nothing wrong with the tactic per se, however, playing this way every time, hands the initiative to our opponents who knew exactly what we were going to do, and were in a position to not need to urgently press, (which in itself rendered it pointless), but also, there is simply no point in the way we did it - a pass of no more than one yard which ultimately ended up in a long pass anyway, just under a bit more pressure. The defenders need to vary their position, and the keepers need to vary which one he distributes to, or if indeed he uses that outlet at all. To do the same thing every time is bad enough but to repeatedly use Andersen, who repeatedly gave the ball away was nothing short of negligent. I totally blame the coaching staff, if they haven't picked up on this. It's level 1 standard coaching. I expect to see better from a professional set up.
I've been to Portsmouth 3 times to watch Barnsley. Three defeats, three almighty hangovers, one sun-stroke, one p#ss wet through , two appearances on the pitch (one that only my sister knew about), and several hundred £s lighter. Needless to say I'm doing something cheaper, and "worthwhile". Like Prom Dress Shopping.
Insanity is not that different from incompetence in out teams context last night. 'Insanity' is only used in Einstein's quote, most management courses replace it with incompetence.
On occasion I go watch PNE, close to home and brother in law is a fan. Last year I watched them beat (and beat up) Norwich. Similar game to last night , except Norwich were better than us. Norwich keeper refused to boot the ball upfield. Insisted on playing out from the back every time. No variation, every time. Crazy last year, crazy yesterday. Preston know what’s going to happen and are all over the defence. Play out from the back fine, but mix it up so they don’t know how to line up. Brown is actually decent in the air, can’t the keeper practice hitting him occasionally?
