It will have to end sooner or later, but how much will the bindings that are keeping us from returning to normal life be slackened? Will footy and all spectator sports be cancelled for the foreseeable future? Pubs/Restaurants too. Schools kept off till September? Work from home unless you physically can't? No holidays, no foreign travel? We might be made to move in tiny social circles for a long while so the sports/entertainment businesses might be knacked for years.
I think it will be eased gradually maybe with periods of tightening again if infections take off If - and its still a big if - we can find a way to test, track and trace properly the restrictions can be targeted to those at most risk Hard to see mass gatherings such as football - theatre and cinema coming back any time soon but possibly relaxations to non essential business and shops and maybe limited openings for Pubs and restaurants - maybe allowing smaller numbers in or outside and with screens so that distancing can be kept. I have a feeling that home working will remain a much more common occurence going forwards for many people where it is practical
We’ve been on about same too this morning, my opinion on it is that until the death count is below X and new cases have gone maybe X days/weeks then it’d be suicidal to go back to normal, how they can justify letting 70,000 people back to old Trafford for argument sake is beyond me! A think life can return to some form of normality but there’ll be elements of life that will take a lot to get back to where they were
I can’t see us being fully back to normal this year tbh. Certain things will return like shops being open and possibly pubs and restaurants, but I can’t see how mass gatherings can possibly become the norm again any time soon.
Not to mention the Seven Deadly Sins. I've got Gluttony and Sloth with me at the moment. I'm hoping Lust might make an appearance tonight, but my missus says its more likely that Wrath might put its spoke in.
The two things I've missed most are pubs and live sport on TV. Apart from that I've quite enjoyed been off work and supping Moretti at 10am in the garden.
With Sky and other services now streaming new movies direct, this could be the end of the cinema industry - or at least a major scaling back - Will Sheffield need half a dozen multiplex cinemas?
I hope it isnt - Much prefer to see a film on the big screen in a cinema - just not the same watching it at home
That would be brilliant. Cinema has to be quite possibly the most overated entertainment industry or at least in the running. Uncomfy chairs, sat in the dark, people talking, overpriced ticket, rip off snack prices etc I just don't see why people enjoy cinema trips. If you can lounge in peace on your sofa in the light by ordering new movies through your television that's fantastic.
Maybe but people like to go out with other people and see things in the big screen. Dunkirk for eg.was much more compelling on a big screen.
I think it will be anything that mixes lots of people up that will be delayed for a good while. Spectator sport might be behind closed doors, if at all. You could have to register with a pub/restaurant and just stick to one or two venues. Holidays that involve flying, cruising or large hotels/camps could get the boot. Millions of unemployed, Government nationalisation of business and industry.
You watch films at home with the lights on? The darkness makes the colours more vivid and blocks out any distractions so your focus is fully on the movie I also find the seats at modern cinemas to be really comfortable too and fortunately I've very rarely encounter people talking much rarer than when watching with family or friends at home
It’s funny, I used to absolutely detest the cinema. It’s expensive, far too loud and makes you watch adverts and half an hour of trailers before (even though the adverts should make the thing cheaper, in everything else, if you have to put up with adverts the thing itself is free). However, I’ve been getting free tickets for loads of films before they are released for the past year and a half and now I really enjoy it. One major factor is that there are no adverts or trailers at all before the showings but I also feel there is less pressure to like the film as it’s free. A good bargain will change my mind on anything!
