It'll be us. A tsunami of bank notes from surrounding rich clubs will engulf a 'matchday Oakwell' suffocating and wiping out a the football club, staff, players and fans.

I think it will. I wouldn't be surprised if Bolton go out of business at some point in the next 10 years.

poor old Ashley's been on and read this Fred , and unfortunately with him suffering from severe ADHD, it's just baked his head in and he's decided to leave football altogether and instead concentrate on his boyhood dream of being a professional impersonator of Ashley from coronation street.

I don't think really that the league a player comes from necessarily shows how good they're going to be. We've had top players from non-league and poorer players from Premier League teams. The only way to find out how good these lads are is to see how we do in the league

Considering what were up against its remarkable we're competing in the Championship. Money does not guarantee success and we proved that last season. Long may it continue

But if the attitude of the OP was taken, it would mean no-one could or should complain about this season, whatever happens

Supporting Barnsley has been pointless from the start. We have never been likely to win owt or play in the prem or win the Champions League. Nowt changed but still we carry on.

Usually if you have a point of view that is different to almost everyone else, the odds are that it is you that is wrong. However, once in a while, even though you are bucking the trend you are, in fact, right. That is how I feel about BFC and the way they are manageing the club. FFP is being circumvented by many clubs, SKY has royally screwed football as has the FA in its relentless pursuit of money. BFC are living within their means. Whilst the oft predicted downfall of the big spenders has yet to happen there WILL be a point when the wheels fall off. Good old Barnsley WILL have the last laugh.

Besides, Barnsley FC survived the 60s and 70s and have had many great seasons since which is, surely, what it is all about. It is proper football club

Isn't your whole argument defunct though quite simply due to Huddersfield's promotion last year?

I get your point and it is getting harder but the magic of football is that the unexpected occurs and it is often illogical, there is not the perfect correlation between spending and points. It is an art not a science. Enjoy it

I would say number 11 and number 5 are in serious trouble if they don't reach the greed league very soon.

Imagine there are other clubs teetering on the edge too.

Football is *****. But I love watching Barnsley. If we ever racked up £daft m debts I think all interest I had in this game would evaporate. That period of administration we went through was awful. Perhaps it's why I would rather us be a small fish in a big pond. I know others feel differently. Each to their own. I do support the "plan". But my caveat has always been that we need to demonstrate the next stage. Which is reinvestment of significant amounts (not all) of what we make from transfers into more, and (hopefully) better players. We've signed lots this summer. I honestly have no idea if they will be better or not. I sincerely hope they are. But I hope that we have done everything we can to sign the players Hecky wanted. And not pulled the rug and gone for "cheap" options. Like a poster earlier I half expected and hoped to see a couple of Ollie Watkins type signings to make up for losing Conor, Bree and Winnall in January. Perhaps we tried but their wages were too high. Who knows. Still time but I doubt we will.

It's a game. Something to pass the time. The moment it ever caused me any kind of worry or anger or any other negative emotion beyond the 90 minutes of ups and downs we always have and will endure, then I'll stop going.

I do want a club for my son to enjoy watching though. Be that premiership, championship, L1 or L2. I think when he's my age the football league will have lost a good number of clubs. I just hope we aren't one of them.

I think we just keep going and try to improve or maintain year on year. I'd hate to lose hecky or pc and would be very concerned if we did. I really hope the barnsley fans don't turn on the team if we have a slow start to the season because the slow start is very likely. We will surprise a few again this year though and with moncur hammill and Izzy I'm looking forward to it.

The level of investment we make in players, wages etc will need some speculation and calculated risk taking to get anywhere near a realistic ability to push for a top 6 place. I think the degree of financial risk we take will increase with each season we are able to survive in the Championship. Maybe another couple of seasons of "mid-table mediocrity" will provide the firmer foundations, in a financial sense, for that more speculative approach? A step by step approach also reduces some of the risks attached to a failure of "the plan" should relegation occur. I want to be able to have my dreams of success, whether they are realised is a different matter, but I also have vivid memories of 2002, and don't want the club to take too much of a risk in a short space of time. I don't think we can really judge the success/failure of the plan for another 3 or 4 years really.
