You’re right, it’s always possible I waded to school but have no memories of it happening. btw the isle of axholme is the other side of Donny, epworth etc., I used to play cricket out there early 80’s.
yes you're correct i should have thats the 2nd mistake i've made today 1st was trying to talk to you aquaman
I'd stop digging if I was you, you've clearly been mistaken im afraid and not admitting it is, to coin your phrase, a special kind of bellendery lol
Thank god for that embankment lol it runs straight across the end of my back garden on the sprotbrough side, there was no way the Don was getting over that.
if you go from arksey to barnby dunn on the righthandside theres like a farm/farmstead complex, i think it used to be a racing stables in days of yore but that is the isle of almholme apparently
Thank you . I used to live in the Isle of Axholme at Eastoft opposite the bed of the old River Don where boats used to call prior to the drainage .
read somewhere that a river that has its course changed will always return to its original course. Think this about the River Lyn ?? which flooded in Lynton/Lynmouth in the 1950's ?? and reverted to it's original course after being changed at one point.
Yeah think your right, most of these rivers are 1000's of years old and there was a reason they flowed where they did / do
I was told that as well TTS. Someone who worked at Prosper de Mulder said they actually saw workmen wade into a nearby river to adjust flood barriers thus diverting any surplus water into Bentley instead of Doncaster. Just been watching the news on ITV, showing Boris Johnson's visit to Fishlake and Stainforth. Not at all surprised at the hostile reception he recieved and was delighted to see him being berated by local residents. He's offering " clean up" compo at the level of £500 per dwelling and £2,500 for every business in the area. Absolute pittance. Can't see the Tories getting many votes in the constituencies in and around that region.
They'll all be voting Labour anyway. Corbyn meanwhile was up in Scotland promising to spend more money on Scotland before they have a referendum in 2021 and tell us to **** off.
As I understand it, if it had been declared a National Emergency then extra funds would be released. On a further note, if it was declared a National Emergency then we could apply to the EU for funding to help...from BBC website.... "Member states can apply to the EU for extra funds from the bloc's Solidarity Fund to help tackle natural disasters. But member states do not have to make any declaration over an emergency beforehand. For regional emergencies, the amount given depends on the scale of the damage and cost of the operations. It is capped depending on the size of the area's economy. In theory the government could apply for up to for €509m (£436m), on behalf of South Yorkshire, the EU says." As you can imagine, nothing that would give the opportunity for the EU to help and be seen in a positive light, will happen
Probably not as it has to be declared a National Emergency which it hasn't been. Do you think that, at this moment , a request for help to the EU would happen? EDIT.....just re read it. It doesn't have to be declared a National emergency but the Government would have to apply for the money (like that's going to happen )
They don’t have to declare a national emergency to apply. But if they applied it would spin the eu in a positive light when they (as they inevitably would) agree to issue the funds. So they won’t do it, as it will kill their political (financial) ambition. Balls to the little folk.
I love this - you genuinely believe I can't remember what happened in places I lived whilst I lived there on the simple basis your comprehension skills are those of a toddler. Utterly flipping brilliant.
