Don't let them get to you mate. He's clearly a wind-up merchant, I just treat it as an opportunity to have a laugh.....
I genuinely don't get the joke. I don't find it offensive either. Last night someone posted a Tweet of a swede, a carrot, and lime - Sweet Caroline. I thought this was on the same lines as that. Obviously I'm missing something and there's some cruel humour in there, I just don't know what it is.
I'm guessing he's saying she's thick and has mixed up sea lions with three lions so she's wearing sea lions on her shirt. It's just a little bit random as she hasn't been relevant since 2019
Seems I was looking too hard. Still don't find it offensive though. I think politicians are fair game on both sides of the political divide and while I quite like Diane Abbott, I can't deny that she's said and done some pretty daft stuff. Agree it's entirely random though, and in that there could be prejudice, but not necessarily.
Yeah, definitely agree with this. I don't think Mick (although obviously not certain) intended to be racist, just think it was some of the stuff she's said in the past. My first thoughts didn't even think racism, was just like you in thinking very random and relating it to some of the rhetoric she's come out with
Without the title of the post you could pass it off as a silly joke , there’s one with a T-shirt with three Lion bars taped on it but Diane Abbott has been the victim of right wing racist trolls for years making claims she said and done all sorts of stupid stuff , to title it ‘The Gift that keeps giving’ suggests it falls into that group of trolling , I don’t know if Mick understands that but it’s a strange turn of phrase if he doesn’t . I’m prone to odd non pc post but I’m surprised he posted that
I don't think it was offensive or prejudiced or anything like that. I think he's just a pretty right wing Tory who loves taking pot shots at labour and Dianne Abbott is an easy target because of her gaffs. I think Mick Woodhouse is harmless enough to be honest, he just likes a wind up.
I honestly thought, and I'm not being deliberately contrary, that "The gift that keeps giving" referred to England songs that can be turned in to harmless and slightly amusing, erm, memes(?). I don't know if memes is the right word as I don't really know the definition of one. So last night was the swede, the carrot and the lime and then today seas lions on a shirt. I liked them both. Obviously they don't make you laugh uproariously, but I thought they were, well, sweet. And as I view Diane Abbot as basically a good person, I didn't think it was a dig at her. I just thought she'd be someone who was supporting the women's football team last night. Not that only women support the women's football team, just that it would be more appropriate to have a high profile woman sporting that shirt, rather than a high profile man, and while we're at it, why not have a nice one. I no longer think it was any of that. After reading the subsequent responses I think it was a dig a Diane Abbott. But I still don't think that is a terrible thing to do. My politics are left leaning, so I won't be making many, if any, digs about Labour politicians. But I make plenty about Tory politicians. I think Liz Truss is an awful human being and I'm not shy in saying so. I reckon if you have different politics to the ones I do it's OK to have a dig at those you feel don't represent you. Having said all that, I've already admitted to being wrong once, my second reading of the situation could be equally as incorrect and what you've written could well be correct.
You might be right , as I said I don’t know what the posters motive was but why Diane Abbotts face and not a more current politician like Liz Truss or Nadine Dorris who have become known more recently for daft comments
I know this, whatever your opinion of the OP, if you have to take into account ,colour, race, sex, relevance in time etc before making a joke, any attempt at humour is fked on here.
I didn't think it was racist. just a $hit joke. the kind of meme that will be flooding Facebook threads. the Sainsbury's ad I got. a bit corny, but they actually sell swedes, carrots and limes. and it was positive. and it was relevant to the song they were singing. this was just a $hit, irrelevant joke with very little context.
My only problem with the OP is that he didn't put his post into the "Made Me Laugh" thread. It didn't make me laugh, but humour is subjective most of the time anyway. Other than that I'm fine with it. Each to their own.
The only thing I've learned from the photo is Diane Abbot has tattoos never knew that or is it a made-up photo?
The photo is a mock up and it would look stupid if Nadine Dorres head was super imposed on it what with the arms being black. Dianne has had her gaffs in the past so it fits in well with any joke. But It also fits the racist bit if you want it to. BTW I found the t shirt joke very funny but only the t shirt before any of you self righteous lot get on my case.
Whether folk think its funny or not I'm really struggling to see how its racist, its a picture of somebody wearing a tee shirt so they have to be some colour so by that definition any picture would be racist. As to who is wearing the shirt comedy typically points the finger at someone who historically prone to public gaffes and whatever her education DA certainly fits the bill
