The OP should read Troff's post above. The death of the NHS will occur because the general public will eventually, slowly, blindly accept 'the NHS is bloated and inefficient' rhetoric. They will be spoonfed the line and told that nasty pandemics could be handled oh so much better in future by a 'better' system. Be afraid. Be very afraid.
Just want to point out it's not "office staff" it's the hordes of band 7s and 8s that are the issue. They then spend any extra funding they get by having four new band 6s and a 7 where the desperate need is for hands on staff at a lower banding. These new staff (or rather those promoted from within) will then be used as a kind of gestapo to keep us all in check and stifle complaint. The Shrewsbury and Telford Trust has been called out in the report for its 'toxic' nature: it's not alone.
It is bloated in certain areas (damagingly so and highly inefficient in far too many areas). If you worked the wards you would know this. This is not propaganda it's a reality. These are however only a couple of significant issues. The major one is consistent underfunding but the individual trusts do themselves no favours with their decision making with their budgets.
It is bloated though. Its obese. It needs to go to slimming world. Theres a lot of non jobs within the NHS on massive money and massive inefficiencies through out all the trusts and CCGS. Wasnt Aintree once described as the biggest art gallery in Liverpool?
Pharmacists, therapists, people to take blood and analyse, midwives. Not all extra posts will be admin
But this is a bit of a stalemate isn’t it, because while ever we refuse to acknowledge the elements of poor performance and waste - as highlighted by people in this thread who work within the NHS - then those seeking to bring about the privatisation will de facto have a stronger case. The right way to defend the NHS’s existence has to be to seek improvement within the present public structure, not to turn a blind eye to wastefulness and the type of wrong headed decision making here that is going to directly cause thousands of deaths, or accuse those who point out these problems of having a right wing agenda. Just like the right way for those of us who wanted to Remain to have won the debate was to engage on difficult issues like immigration and debate the overall position rather than simply shutting down discussion by accusing all Leavers of just being racists.
The answer to poor or perceived poor management of public services should never be their Privatisation. British Rail anyone
Out side of the "hospital" Pharmacists are private companies who are paid by the NHS for services, same as GPs' .
In that scenario what they do is go to an agency and pay much more until one comes along. It’s a real catch 22 situation, medical staff know by going to agencies they can earn more money and the NHS compound it by paying it.
Firstly agency staff do not personally get paid more than nhs staff when working the wards. The NHS however pays the agency more money for that staff member than it would cost to pay their own.
Yep, I also know of someone diagnosed and being treated during the lockdown, not read this article but last time this came up what was actually said was people might not get diagnosed early enough due to not going to Drs
I would have to politely disagree. My Niece left her job at the NHS and went straight back on more hourly pay. You are correct though if she factors in sick pay, holiday pay etc.
Theres every aspect of health care industry mentioned in these three pages, GP's Dentists, Porters, Cleaners. ... Most of whom are not employed by the NHS.
